Anglo-German Alliance

Post by The Land »

Not sure I'll ever get round to this, but would it be interesting to have an Anglo-German Alliance mod?

1914, but in an alternative history where Britain and Germany were allied and the cause of the war was a Russian-British dispute over something in Persia.

Germany would have a tough time in the land war, but also tough for Britain to fend off the Russian invasion of Persia while maintaining an effective blockade of France and dealing with French commerce raiders.

The Balkans would be a bit of a house of cards... the Entente try to entice the Ottomans onside with the promise of British territory in Egypt, but if the Ottomans enter the war then Austria-Hungary probably becomes upset and tends towards the Anglo-German side more strongly, Greece could declare war on the Ottomans if the British diplo them enough, but this could prompt the Bulgarians to also join the Entente... Italy would be tempted to seize Trento, but unwilling to do that while there are British naval units stationed at Malta...

I'm giving it a go!

First question! If the Ottomans are neutral, is there any other way to handle their Empire than to abolish Syria, Palestine, Iraq and Arabia and just have the whole thing as Ottoman territory?

I'm also thinking that 1911 is a more interesting start date.

So on further prodding of the game, it looks like having neutral Majors is a bad idea, as the only way to engage with them diplomatically is by having an active Major DoW them? Is it possible for an event to change a Major from Neutral to aligned with one of the factions?

You should be able to have a script for the Major to surrender to itself, and that will flip which side it is on.

Best to test this theory out in practice to ensure it's working as intended, and it could then be triggered by a Decision Event.

But diplomacy cannot flip a Major from one side to the other.

In terms of the Ottoman territories, it's up to you, and depends what purpose they may have in game. But unless they are separate entities, there can be no Arab Partisans.

Thanks Bill. I think I'll leave major-switching to fairly late on (if at all!)

Currently the lineup is:

Anglo-German Alliance: UK and Germany to start, Austria-Hungary enters almost inevitably, USA possible.
Entente: Russia and France to start, Ottomans very likely, Italy likelyish. (Serbia, on its 1911 borders, is a minor not a major.)

I'm leaving the Ottoman territories as they are, so they play the same role as in the core scenarios.

Good news, I'm working on this!

Bad news, I've modded the game into crashing on the scenario load screen. I am sure I've seen something about a debug setting that logs the load - but can't for the life of me find it. Any advice very welcome.

Ignore this, the crash was unrelated to whatever I'd been doing.

Having a lot of fun working on this scenario, albeit very slowly. Hope to have something to share next week!
