Game crashes on opening after 0.40 update

Downloaded OAWIV update v4.1.0.40 today. Game won't open. It hangs up after the emblem with the green NATO soldiers/tanks intro page. Then goes nowhere.

Suggest doing a fresh install of version .20 and then upgrade to .40. I tried upgrading from the .11 version to .40 and it doesn't work.

Thanks, I think my install of OAW is an "old original" (2006!)version that may or may not accept a new update.
I'm waiting for staff to respond, because I do not believe I can uninstall the update, so the game has become inoperable.
Maybe they can give me a code to install a newer (compatible) download game itself as this crash has made my game (paid for with hard-earned money) inoperable. I have the original disc(!) and serial number.
I had a good game going too, 'East Front' or whatever.

This is TOAWIV, if you don't have you have to buy it. Not sure how you got the idea that any other games make use of patches for TOAWIV but they don't, TOAWIV patches are for TOAWIV.

As per above it sounds like you may have TOAW III and you downloaded the patch for TOAW IV. That won’t work, they are two (2) separate games. You’ll need to purchase TOAW IV if you want the latest and greatest. You’ll have to reinstall TOAW III since you botched it up.

Off the top of my head there is only a few games that have the same name or are identified by a specific version (hence TOAW I, II, III and IV are all different and not compatible games as far as patches and upgrades go).

I think the same confusion could be found with the WitP and WitP-AE games, both are completely different games.

So the moral of the story is just to be extra careful when you go to the your games section when your downloading the game(s) and their patches.

I know there is some hard feelings about this but the one thing that Steam does that is nice is that once you purchase and activate a game, it gets automatically updated and no confusion will happen.

Few games? There are many out there sharing the same names and having just minor differences indication a new game.
Think of all the EA sports stuff that only changes the year in the title. And even there nobody would get the idea to apply patches for EA Dick-Fencing 2020 to an EA Dick-Fencing 2019.

Why is it what since the release of TOAWIV we get people there that do not seem to get the easiest things done?
Remember all the cry babys shouting" I only have a few scenarios!", because they are unable to push a HUGE button to change the directory?
I just don't get how these people want to play the game if they already fail to recognize there environment...

No one is being abrasive. The guy had been thoroughly confused and on my part I pointed out the differences because he obviously had no idea. If I were being abrasive I would have posted a lame poem.
