Should I buy?

Hey all - saw Korsun Pocket in the gamestore the other day, have a question.

As an old vet of Atomics V-for-Victory series and World-At-War series -
is this along the same lines?

Is it as intuitive as the above series?

Any old V4V vets care to fill me in?

In summary KP is a fun title, a read through the PDF rules book is a must in order to grasp the intricacies of the system though the printed tutorial booklet will lead you some way. Supply is a breeze vs World at War, the basics are highly intuitive - though without reading the manual you may not understand for example, why a combat you're planning will not activate (you need 1:2 odds or better - I sat for a while with my head askew like a confused labrador until I worked that one out).

Unlike any other system, the AI will punish you even when you think the going is good. This is partly attributable to the AI and partly the AI's ability to take advantage of the scale. Regimental units at 3km per hex leave numerous gaps in the front line for the AI to pour through. All in all, you won't be wasting your money though the number and types of issues some are going through in getting the game to run is not without interest. Not being one of them I can encourage you to give it a go on the basis of some interesting game play thus far.

I am a veteran of Atomic’s World at War series. This was a much improved version of the V for Victory series.

There are some similarities with KP but there are more differences.

If you like operational level games then you will love this.

If you wish to try this game you can begin by trying it’s predecessor. Named TAO2 (The Ardennes Offensive 2). It will under WIN 95- 98 but will not run under any other OS. It can be downloaded free here:

It gives you a good feel for KP but KP has many improvements.

I have been playing TAO2 by PBEM for 2 years and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Was one of my favourite games the V4V series, KP is sooooo much better, enought said.

KP is an awesome game if you like strategic wargames. I'm a fairly seasoned Panzer Campaigns player and I find Korsun Pocket (SSG) to be more entertaining. I'm not saying I don't enjoy PzC any more because I do, but KP seems to put you closer to the action ... I don't know how to put it in words ... maybe its a higher degree of intimacy (

) with the troops ... its especially more fun when it comes to combat planning and resolution.

Simply put: Buy it and the next title and the next ... and so on; you won't be disappointed if you like this genre of gameplay. IMHO

Hank, do you like PzG Arnhem '44 or Bulge '44?

I've only played Tobruk '41 and I was wondering if Id like those.

I have:

Kursk '43
Sicily '43
Fulda Gap
Middle East

All those I have are great games. Its a totally different user interface than KP. I am a PzCampaign player from now on ... at least until I become disillusioned, which probably won't happen, ... and I've enjoy the opponents I've met throught PzC PBEM games. I think all the titles are good. I know the eastern front games are quite popular (Smolensk, Kharkhov, Kursk, and Korsun) as are the "modern Battles" series which includes Fulda Gap, Middle East, and now Korea. To be honest, the Tobruk game is probably the least popular. Bulge and Normandy are both good games but I don't have them so I can only comment on what I've read.

I do know that Fulda Gap is a very popular game for the Modern Battles series and its a toss-up for the WWII games ... korsun is popular and so are the ones you mentioned. Personnally, I think there is room for both game types on a wargamer's shelf ... the SSG and the Tiller games are both "top notch" !!! ... the best you're going to find in the whole wide world.

I'm having a blast playing it. Last wargame I played was the original Steel Panthers which I loved to death, so this is bringing back lots of good memories.

I'm currently playing PzC Sicily '43 and KP, and love them both. I think this is a great time to be a wargamer, and I'm glad to see KP is getting such good press.

A lot of people have overlooked Sicily '43 because of the subject matter, but it is a great, manageable PzC game. Kursk is a bit overwhelming for me, but I'm sure I'll give it a try.

I'm waiting for Matrix/SSG to do Africa with the KP interface (i know I'll be waiting a while, but Operation Crusader is still my favorite hex game of all time).
