ORIGINAL: Mundy

Additional note:

A pair of IJN AMCs are cruising the waters west of Karachi near the map edge and have hit some of my returning cargo ships.

I've moved a bunch of search planes to the island up there and have dispatched a CA, CL and two DDs to intercept. I may be meeting them next turn, so hopefully I can finish them off. They're comfortable spotted and he has no clue what's on the way.
I have it on good authority that the island up there is called "Scoodra"! [:D]

As far as carriers go, I have 7 USN fleet carrier and three CVLs present. They arrived today and I replenished their air groups. I couldn't build them up with the replenishment button, (12 at a time limit) so I just swapped planes back and forth to get full squadrons. Nice trick. Wildcats and Devastators still serve a purpose. All the carriers will be out of the yard in 4 days. Bunker Hill arrives in Panama in 7 days. Cowpens just arrived on-map from Panama, so I should be 8/4 when they get to Pearl. I had to withdraw Victorious as she was due to leave. Her air group is weak anyway.

The guys at Tinian are slowly getting whittled down. Don't think they'll be there when I return. I'm dropping 3 divisions on that island next time around.

Looks like I got credit for Yamato. Died to a 16"/45, so a Colorado probably did it. I'm pretty certain Shokaku is dead, but no news yet.

Divide into thirds, then add the replacements, then recombine.

Another way, I guess. I had no reinforcement options anyway, since it automatically happened when they reached port, so that wouldn't have worked.

Divide them into thirds before you get to port if you have automatic replacements on.

Enterprise is out of the yard in 1 day, Saratoga in two. Another 4 days until their planes are up and ready.

Most of my people transports from the invasion will be back within the next 4-5 days starting with the next.

Transports from San Francisco are outbound with supply for Marcus, Wake and Eniwetok. Can't afford to use the ones at Pearl right now. Lots of militarized AKs are arriving at Pearl. Cowpens is about 2 days out.

Argonaut and another USN sub just dumped a bunch more mines on Tinian. Hiei may have just hit one of these.

Bunker Hill arrives in Panama next turn. Once she's back, hopefully enough transports are repaired that I can try round two at Tinian and Saipan.

California is finally due out the docks at Tacoma in about 3 days. My battleship supply is a bit low right now.

Bunker Hill is on the map next turn. CVL Monterey arrived in Panama last turn, but I doubt she'll make the upcoming fight.

Ships are getting fixed daily at Pearl Harbor, and hopefully I have enough transport for the next move. I'm getting all my AOs fueled up for this.

RE: Getting Bottlenecked: SierraJuliet (J) vs Mundy (A)

Currently got a scare going in this game now.

I usually leave my ships able to upgrade, and of course, most of my carriers decided to go to dock for an upgrade.

Last turn I looked for them and they all disappeared. I don't see them on the ship maintenance screen of the port and they aren't listed in the master ship list at the top of the screen.

Tracker still says they're at Pearl.

I think you have to toggle the text at the top of the list to say "Show All Ships" instead of the usual "Show active ships".

Hadn't seen that. I'll give it a shot. I'm guessing it's a display issue at worst right now.

Thanks BB.

Looks like my MIA carrier issue is solved.

If you have too many ships disbanded at a port, the game will start hiding ships from view.

I built a couple of 100 ship amphib groups and then they showed up.

Ah yes, that happened to someone else who had more than 1000 ships in port. I'm having trouble imagining that many disbanded ships!
Did you quarantine all your cruise liners or something? [8|]

Mostly all the amphibs I'm accumulating.

I'm guessing the game is using some fixed length array to store the ship in port in. When it fills up, stuff gets bumped out.

It'll probably be two weeks before I can kick anything off, thanks to me leaving the upgrades on. [:(] At least all the flak will be enhanced.

My forces at Tinian will probably be extinct next turn. Guam and Pagan are pretty impotent right now, due to bombardments. He'll have a hard time taking Guam back if he tries, as I have a full armored division parked there.

I'd like to drive his battleships away before my invaders arrive. Willis Lee is leading a big cruiser force with hand picked captains. While I know the cruisers could probably deal with the Koongos, I'd rather it not come to that. Happy to have dispatched a fleet carrier.

I'm parking my carriers to the SW out of range until Enterprise, Hornet and Monterey arrive to reinforce them. Those two were stuck with their upgrades a bit later than the rest.

His one BB is on fire, but I'm not sure it's enough to drive her away yet. Pity the TBFs couldn't have landed a hit.

Ugly turn.

I wound up getting my carriers a bit too deep into the fire. Wound up surrounded by surface forces. I set them at full speed and sent them east. I think I'm about clear now. Had a couple surface encounters, but no serious damage. They'll be rendezvousing with my invasion fleet and their tankers. I dished out plenty of hits with my planes.

RE: Getting Bottlenecked: SierraJuliet (J) vs Mundy (A)

Post by Mundy »

06 November 1943

Just realized... November 1943. I think all my torpedoes are normal now.

Things are getting ugly in the Marianas. Pagan and Guam keep getting bombarded, and both are low on supply.

My invaders have arrived. His surface force caught the one headed to Saipan. Most everyone's alive, but damaged, so I'm pulling them a little back.

My carriers cut loose. Some planes at Guam helped.

Some small groups went to Saipan and got chewed by the big CAP there.

At this point I can probably declare KB extinct. His surface groups and subs will still be a problem. Enterprise and I think Saratoga each took a torp, but they're still well enough to fly planes. I really don't want to run them back through the sub barrier with 2 DDs at this point. I wish my subs could hit the main targets like that.

He has one big surface group at Saipan and if I can club them, I can proced with this mission in a more relaxed state.

At my Tinian landings, my battleships bombardment was rather disappointing. I've still got about a 2-1 advantage in AV now, even with troops still unloading. I'll wait until everyone's set before I attack. My battleships from the invaders united with Willis Lee's cruiser force and they're heading to Saipan to finish his surface group.

Supply transports are unloading or enroute to Guam and Pagan.

RE: Getting Bottlenecked: SierraJuliet (J) vs Mundy (A)

Post by Mundy »

09 November 1943

Always ugly, all the time...

I've pretty much done what I can in the Marianas. There's a bunch of troops on Tinian. One bombardment and one attack took heavy casualties on my end. I think they're stuck for now.

I'm getting everyone out. My air is mostly depleted and some carriers are damaged, none fatally. One CV and two CVLs should arrive within the next month or so. After that, I'm dry until Feb 44. I think Victorious arrives in Aden too.

My troop fragment situation is a mess with all this. Bits and pieces everywhere. His cruisers hit one of my landing forces, but I had a bunch of cruisers there. Ashigara was in this group, but died two days ago against my three BBs in Lee's goup. Nice to see another one die.

I'm waiting for recon to get fixed up at Eniwetok, after an upgrade, so I can check out Truk again. Last I checked, he seemed to have not too may troops there. I may just go in and take it. As long as it doesn't become the fiasco I had against Cannonfodder (Kenchi Sulla). I've got plenty of supply at Guam and Pagan now, so they'll be good for awhile. Musashi is hanging around the area, so I'll probably be dealing with bombardments now and then. Thankfully, Yamato's dead. Betties at Truk are hitting some of my more southern transport groups, so I'm detouring them north.

After Truk, I'll probably go directly to Luzon, hopefully get him to thin out his forces in the Marianas and I can build up more there. If he wants a heavy air presence there, it'll mean being light elsewhere. I have enough fighters up on Pagan and Guam to escort bombers on strikes. Any shipping not at Saipan or Tinian can get hit. Taking truk can put a choke hold on Rabaul and everything south.
