Float/Search planes effect on surface combat

Post by spence »

Float planes performing a recon mission during a bombardment help the ship performing the bombardment by allowing it to cause more damage to the enemy.

IRL I believe the Japanese used cruiser float planes to silhouette the Allied cruisers by dropping flares behind them in the darkness (Savo Island?). Question is can float planes/search planes enhance the performance of friendly surface ships during a surface engagement?

Yes, they do so by increasing detection level via naval search, which has positive effects on surface combat.

So do night sightings carry over to the daytime move or does one have to do the sighting all over again to benefit?
