22 Airlanding cannot paradrop - you need a Fallshirmjaeger division to do that one. One German one does arrive later although leaves before 1942 too.

It is a superb unit with very high morale, which you will lose by withdrawal early.
Conclusion, use it as hard as possible for any really tough proposition, while you have it.

Yes, one of your best infantry division, use it in your spearheads. The siege of Odessa is a prefect first job for it.

It withdraws on turn 55 if I'm not mistaken, so you have time... :-)

Just on a note of caution though its ToE I believe is short of heavy artillery so not maybe the very best for grinding or sieges? Its very high morale means that it only requires 2MPs to cross into enemy hexes so I usually favour it to be the very first fastest infantry divisions right behind the panzers.

Good point, but clearly you would support it with a good leader HQ, support battalions, and regular infantry in this situation.
22ALD is very good, but not magic!

Historically, 22. (Luftlande) Infanterie-Division took part in the first attacks against the Sevastopol fortress.
