Game crashes on opening the new update

Post by John B. »

Hello,

I downloaded the new update and my game got caught up on the green screen at the start. Anything I should be doing to get it to work?

And yes, it really is TOAW IV that I have (I even posted some AARs on here back when it came out).

Hello, I remember the AARs, sorry it is not functioning for you.

I've seen other reports about this issue, but no solid answer.

It really needs a fix, very off putting for new players.

There have been musings about how the installer screws around with older file paths,
not sure what is up w/ that. I wish they'd sort it out.

Only clue I have, is make sure all scenearios / grafx are in mydocuments?
and maybe use the direct .exe path (to opart4.exe , not the one to matrix / steam / loader?)
Others more in the know can provide better fixes.

Best I can suggest is, try hitting opart4.exe to start, maybe that will get over the hump

Be patient. Let it run. There are some initialization stuff that gets done the first time you run the game.

Got it working. Thanks again! But, is there anyway to get rid of the playback control box that stays up in the middle of the playback? I have no doubt that I'm missing something excruciatingly simple but I make no claim to any sort of computer related proficiency. :)

Also, the airmissions for my units seem to reset each time I do a move. For example, I have an air unit in Japan. I set it to general interdiction. I bombard with an artillery unit, and the air unit now has a dedicated attack assigned to it. So, I cancel the attack and put it back into general interdiction only to have to repeat it several times per turn. Is it supposed to be this way?

Hi there, I have the same problem but in my case it just runs & runs (hourglass cursor icon) and also, up at the very top there is this msg displayed; (Not Responding).
Task Manager shows it as running right along but with no disk activity just CPU.

p.s. Well, I finally just let the damn thing run for about 1/2 an hour & it finally moved on!
OMG!!
I just bought this PC last NOV19!
So much for it's quad-core, eight processor plus SSD config!
This prg really put it in it's place!

p.p.s. Tried loading a scenario. It's now been almost an HOUR & it's still spinning it's wheels! This game is pretty much useless. I had just purchased it so I never tried to run it with the version that was on the supplied CD. I'm going to go back to that version & see if it runs any faster.

Yeah, I read post #3 but waiting for an HOUR while a scenario loads is just plain old silly.
I went to the version on the physical CD (vxxx.11) & now it runs like a champ!

thanks for the info.

maybe someday I'll try putting in vxxx.20 & then vxxx.40, as has been suggested elsewhere, & see what happens.

Not if you only have to do it once. Run it over night.
