Restored film of Paris late 1890s
This may be of interest to some here. Colourisation, frame-rate correction and AI techniques have been applied. Even though the horseless carriage had been invented, there are none in this footage. It's a bit of a time machine.

Thank you, Neilster, for sharing. [:)]
I will definitely take a look later. At the moment I am behind in my MWIF games and has three of them waiting on my input.

Cool stuff. Some observations:
- The van that appears after 30-odd seconds - a portent of things to come [:)]
- There was some serious beard action going on!
- Crossing the road must have been quite hazardous. I bet there were a lot of accidents with horses and people
- I also thought of the odd carriage - but there was some serious traffic (is that the Champs Elysee? Maybe full of tourists?).
- Interesting to see the fire brigade on a mission 1890's stylee

His other videos are quite cool too. Moscow 1896, New York 1911 for example.

-1`23 footage taken maybe from either the world exposition of 1885 or 1900.
-2`30 For sure it is the Champs Elysees with a look to the Place de l'Etoile.
48.867341, 2.315630 i think in google map.
Well there is probably not now a bigger traffic jam... So older is not always better...
In Paris pedestrians are torned between the patience which is required for waiting a 'geste de politesse ' from drivers which may probably never come , and the gallic bravado defying everything.
-2`45 Place de l'etoile looking towards l'Hotel de la Marine'

-3`45 I have no clue
-4`10 Seems to be the 'Jardin du Luxembourg' ,now there is still junior and seniors mariners here...

-5`10 Again it is during a world exposition, specifically the 1900 one .
It was a major attraction of this event the 'rue de l'avenir'

Check the little footage made by Edison.

Now you now why the automobile can be considered both environmentally friendly and more sanitary.

Although the Fire Brigade are still horse-drawn, they appear to have a steam-powered water pump.
