Blocked UK convoy routes

Post by MorningDew »

In a PBEM game, the Germans invaded the UK (created 6 paratroop corps - didn't see that coming) and also invaded in Scotland.

OK - I still have a lot of open ports in the UK.

But why are my convoy routes blocked? I cannot figure this out. What am I missing?

Not sure what the major ports of import are, but have several 9 port cities still under my control. Liverpool being one I would have certainly expected would have been able to import as with Glasgow and Cardiff and Plymouth. Only major ports he took were Southampton and Edinburgh.

Any suggestions on what is causing the blocked convoys?

6 paratroop corps!!! Don't think that would have been feasible in real life...

Agree - been debating with myself whether there should be limits to certain force types. But definitely making it interesting. However, given that he UK no longer is getting any resources from inbound convoys for some reason, it is also making it not worth continuing, unless it is WAD. But given that major ports ae still open, my gut says something isn't right.

Yeah, whilst I'm not necessarily suggesting arbitrary limits throughout, like in the Strategic Command games, which would go against the design philosophy of Warplan, I can't help thinking there should be some limitation on the numbers of specialist units, paratroops in particular, but also perhaps marines and mountain infantry, all of which require very specialist training (and in the case of active paratroops and marines, the infrastructure to support them), although there may be a better way to discourage building large numbers of these that would be more inline with the Warplan philosophy?

He is blocking your capital from the rail lines and convoys go to the capital. That is what is happening.

BTW, one of the smart things they also did was paradrop on airunits that didn't have infantry with them - effectively also wiping out the UK airforce in one shot for several months.

OK, so WAD.

Seems odd to me that if London falls, the UK can't bring in any convoys, or does the capital move?
