Now this is driving me crazy...

Post by Resisti »

where my yesterday thread about search funcion not working has gone???

Has it been removed? In such a case I'd like to know why....

Is it simply disappeared? In such a case we have a BIG problem with the Forum....

Just to sum up (and feel free to add what I forgot to mention):

-attachments not working well(see separate sticky thread);
-threads disappearing(?);
-e-mail notification not working, or only whenever it wants;
-search function not working

Well, enough to consider about some sort of maintainance, no?

I am generally patient by nature, so I will in my case be waiting till next month to see the forum become a stable reliable experience.

I think that is being fairly generous myself at least.

But I think what Resisti is experiencing is similar to what I have noticed.

I have posted a few posts only as a result of email notification allowing me to directly access the thread.
The thread has when, actually on the board, often been invisible defacto, as I have been unable to "refresh" the page.
In some cases, I get sent back to the "go to forums" page (doesn't help a person any in the process as it doesn't refresh the page in the process).

This is just one example of one of the problems plaguing the forum membership I think.
Clearly, the Matrix Games staff is having some difficulties here. I think perhaps, this might rate as the first big real problem the Matrix Games staff has had to deal with.

Come on guys, it might be time to admit, this site is no longer a small thing. Is there anyone with real tangible web site managing skills on the scene?
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

Hmm, Les, now that I think again about this, IIRC it was Ross Moorehouse taking care of the Forum maintainance, and since he recently quit, this may well be the reason for actual lack of responses from Matrix staff..

Refresh takes me all the way back to the main site page.

Well, we have two choices.

1) we can provide you with a forum that has 95% functionality and you can accept that the rest will get working as soon as possible.

2) we can turn it off.

So far we have gone with 1).

Questioning the competancy of those working to get it better, only increases the looks of 2.

There are plenty of threads mentioning why this is so and how to work around this.

As long as the Beta forums are working so you guys aren't losing time in producing the games, the public forums are secondary...

outside of the image attachments, I have had very few problems with the forum recently, besides, think about what you're complaining about, perfection in the forum software is pretty low on my priority list :D put it in perspective people...Les - you especially, I would have thought you would have a different perspective on it.

I'd rather Paul, Mark and Coy spend time doing games, and making some money.
I'm essentially graphically and history oriented, unfortunately to connect the two I have to do maths. I hate maths.

Have been away from home and riding on other machines too much the last couple of weeks actually. That and getting variable responses with the forums and odd incongruities.

Then I have also been spending most of my brain cells on the new Steel Panthers Mega Campaign.

That would account for why some of my forum related posts might be slightly out of whack or seem odd in comment I guess.

Been here for years it seems, but hmm, still don't have a handle on exactly who does what for everything yet :)

I second that! Having the oportunity to interact with the people who make Matrixgames possible is one of the great things about Matrix. Every system develops problems from time to time, and I'm sure they will be fixed soon enough.

The forums have been working a lot better for me over the last week. I am not sure Ross Moorehouse was ever a tech dude so I would like anyone who says he was running/programming the forums to state why they think this.

I said in my post that "IIRC Ross was..." .
Now you know better than me, since you Americans created and are fond of all these acronyms, that IIRC stands for If I Remember Correctly, and this is exactly what I meant to say, that is: if I'm not mistaken.
If ross was NOT the one with his hands in Forum managing/maintainace, well that's fine with me.
My statement's aim, anyway, was to justify somehow the actual Forum's problems by the fact that the man who I SUPPOSED was taking care of it, had very recently quit; that's all.

If you are going to make accusations you should at least make a nominal effort to check them out. Example:

IIRC Resisti you are a convicted pedophile.

Well I feel you should have put just a little more time into checking out your assertion or been less accusatory; that's all.

If you have to lie to make your point then you're accusations are not worth the time it takes to read them. I have never seen anyone edited for using "BS", Admin or not. If you have I wouldl ike to see it, if not you should apologize.

Upgraded

Post by Shaun Wallace »

The forums have been upgraded and have just been upgraded again.

We are working on getting the forums working 100%. However as we are using the very latest beta of VBulletin there are bound to be bugs over which we have zero control until the Gold version is released.

The attachment problem seems to now be fixed along with several other problems.

The new forums have a ton more features than the old V2 forums both on the users side and the admin.

A FYI, Ross was never the person doing anything technical with the forums. He moderated them and was in charge of the test forums.

The upgrading etc has always been down to Marc and myself.

Considering that the forums have been moved from the old server onto a new server, the SQL, server and forum software all upgraded, I think TBH, its gone pretty painlessly.

None of that matters! I cannot change my avatar! I have been slightly inconvenienced!

WHAT ABOUT ME!

PS: It is obvious that Les Sarge knows everything about everything, I think he should be in charge of all the forum tech stuff from now on. Do it for the children!
