DasTactic Live-stream Preview - Medusa World - COMPLETE

Post by DasTactic »

I can't stop playing Shadow Empire and began a live-stream series on my Twitch channel https://twitch.tv/dastactic

In this series, we start with a Medusa World. I have a better feel for what is important in the game now and so focus on getting my research more specialised as early as I can. In this video you'll see the issues we need to address with diminished resources and with poor characters.

Medusa World 01 Focussing on research
Medusa World 02 Dealing with the slavers
Medusa World 03 Building a city
Medusa World 04 In-depth look at the AI empire
Medusa World 05
Medusa World 06
Medusa World 07
Medusa World 08 Blitzkrieg
Medusa World 09 Final in the series

This is addictive, I cannot stop watching. I am 2 hours in and I will get back to the final hour soon.

I stopped on the Skill Roll for the 'Archaeological Event.' I am not sure if you figured that out yet, but how it works is it says "Difficulty 125. Science Skill Roll 1d100 + 27."

What that means is that you have a hundred sided dice and you add 27 (your Science modifier) to it. This d100 roll plus 27 must meet (or exceed?) the 125. In other words you would need to roll a 98, 99, or 100 to pass the Difficulty rating of 125 [~3% chance to succeed]. So you were wasting the 24 PP on each of those two rolls.

I believe what I am reading and seeing is that you have a 50% chance to roll a 50 (on the d100 dice). Therefore a Difficulty rating of 77 would be a 50% chance of success (50+27 modifier). Any Difficulty rating below 77 has a >50% of success and Difficulty above 77 has a <50% chance of success. For example; a Difficulty of 40 would mean you have an 87% chance of success (77-40)+50; and a Difficulty of 90 would be a 37% chance of success (77-90)+50.

Very entertaining, looking forward to watching the last hour this afternoon.

There are some rolls that don't conform to the summary - like where a leader can give a boost. So I thought I'd give it a try. :) A bit of a long shot.

I believe in my example above, the "+27" is the leader boost. Is that correct?

There are multiple boosts that kick in. There is a boost from their raw stats. A boost from their experience. A boost from their relationship with the leader. A boost if an advisor is attached to them. A boost if they are over level 20 in a specific region of knowledge. And I think there are even more.

I thought I read somewhere that an adviser does not boost rolls, but makes his own roll and the higher of the staff or adviser roll is taken.

"A boost if they are over level 20 in a region of knowledge".., hmmmmm, that sounds interesting. I wonder if that "boost" is shown in the actual window that shows you the modifier of the difficulty?

In other words, if the leader has a +27 factor, and this "level 20 knowledge boost" is +10.., does the actual window show that the modifier is now +37, or does the +10 stay hidden?

I would imagine if the "knowledge boost" amount is hidden in the actual decision window, that is a bug because that would not make sense to NOT reveal the actual modifier.

PS - Das, man, GREAT job on those extended plays. Getting ready to view your last one you posted. I can tell you are addicted.., which is awesome.

Excellent timing! I've just finished up #3! Looks like a growing threat to the north of you! Good thing they're still 'friends'! [8D]

OK. Bit of a marathon but the series is done and yes, we do end up with a victory screen.

This was a lot of fun to play. I also learned a lot playing it. :)

You didn't learn as much as we did Das!!

Awesome job as always but the material you were working with is truly special.

Really looking forward to release.

Alas poor Ignatius! I knew him Horatio: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy! Adding the ability to view deceased/retired/rebel leaders would be a nice addition for the storyline.

It was an excellent preview and I learned a great deal from watching.

Thanks for the comments guys. :) Ignatius was an awesome character in that game. I was genuinely a bit sad when his group charged that machinegun nest in the forest. :)
