Coronavirus-related ‘inflammatory syndrome’ emerges among UK children: report

"A serious coronavirus-related “inflammatory syndrome” is emerging among young people, according to a new report.

“[Over the] last three weeks, there has been an apparent rise in the number of children of all ages presenting with a multisystem inflammatory state requiring intensive care across London and also in other regions of the UK,” reads a “significant alert” issued to general practitioners in North London by the UK’s clinical commissioning group.

“There is a growing concern that a [COVID-19]- related inflammatory syndrome is emerging in children in the UK, or that there may be another, as yet unidentified, infectious pathogen associated with these cases,” continues the letter, which was first obtained by the Health Service Journal."

Mine is a 50lb mostly Redbone with some Lab. I saw her along one the creeks near my house during some bad weather on a Good Friday. She was a pup and so slender that at first I thought she was a weasel.

One thing I noticed about her over time... she knows hunger because she is not to too proud to eat "any worm or insect she can find."

One thing about PCR testing is one is not really testing for intact, living virus inside an infective envelope. Really, one is testing for fragments of viral RNA. A positive test in sewage does not mean there are infective particles. Still, I would recommend avoiding ingestion of such material. It does make me wonder about rats. Felines, canines, bats. Not hard to believe rodents might harbor it as well.

We have 4 of the little furry things - none bigger than 22 pounds, all rescues with various understanding of their respective histories. The oldest one, and most recent addition to the pack, now weighs in at 14 pounds (given up by a woman moving to a facility that did not allow pets). She is a master at opening the gate leading to the front of the house (inside - in place because she was never really house trained).

The one we have the most history on is about 4 now - she can move any gate with ease. And she is a whopping 13 pounds.

The one we have the least history on was found in Jersey City. A place where large fighting dogs are sadly fought and then abandoned. So this little critter weighs in at 14 pounds as well. She is very territorial. I have no idea how she made it on the streets of Jersey City, but she will eat any worm or insect she can find (wasn't big enough to take out a garbage can)

And then the pack leader, Bailey. Coming up on about ten now. Given up because he was not 'playful' enough. Turns out he had ear infections so bad that he scratched his cheeks into scabs. Once solved he became a really good pack member (he is lead).

I will put any one of them up for office.

If you are a critter lover - there have been many more adoptions during this thing - I just hope they stick and we don't have a bunch of surrenders a few months from now.

New York and New Jersey have posted mortality numbers today. As with yesterday, both remain sharply down from the previous days and weeks (NY is down a bit from yesterday, too, while NJ is up a bit). Those numbers may not be final for the day, but if they hold it's more good news.

UK is down again today - meaningful numbers there.

I heard on radio news today that the PM is out of the hospital and back at work.

According to that news report, he indicated UK isn't ready to ease countermeasures. Given the recent high numbers, that's understandable. If the trend continues, with more major drops in cases and mortality, it'll be interesting to see how UK and other countries and jurisdictions handle easing. I mean from a historical standpoint.
