I want my money back

Post by Real and Simulated Wars »

from the following war games I bought before:

Blitzkrieg (a tiny cute war where tanks don't see more than 20 meters ahead)
WWII Batlefield Command (a full 3D game with line of sights of 30 meters in which a inf squad can demolish a 3-story building with grenads!)

What was I thinking?
Developers are dumbing down good ideas just to sell, it is awful.

P/S: Got AA:RDOA. Excellent war game. With this, Cpts Proctor's Brigade Combat Team and Korsun Pocket I feel like I am in heaven.

I have the original 'Sudden Strike' with it's '..... Forever' expansion pack. I bought it some time ago and enjoyed playing it for a while but wouldn't consider going back to it now. It's very playable and looks great but is not particularly realistic in terms of its gameplay. However, without 'Sudden Strike' I doubt whether CDV would have wanted to publish AA:RDOA and Combat Mission in the UK and Europe and from there whether JustPlay would have taken on the Matrix games. World War 2 games are very popular at the moment and as long as there is an 'Airborne Assault' published for every 'Blitzkrieg' I'll be happy. :)

Give EYSA a look, its 3d squad combat. It has been revamped from GIC and it looking real nice. I know first hand some of the work that has gone it to the game and it is no-were near the old GIC. I like to think its as close as a wargame has come to ASL one of my all time favorites of the old school table tops. RTS in 3D

Yes sarge, I'm in there too. Actually, I bought GIC out of my waiting anxiety. I had 3 battles that were awesome. Looking forward for EYSA, hope the middle Sep release figure is accurate.

Just as long as bloody cdv never get their claws on any Matrix games (long live Justplay). I've had quite enough of Wafflegrenadiers, thank you.

It's a little unfair to compare games like Blitzkrieg, Sudden Strike etc with "real" wargames like KP, ATF and Combat Mission. Different genres for different markets - Sudden Strike has far more in common with Starcraft than it does with AA:RDoA.

Not taking exception ;) , but it is the same subject matter. I would hope that somebody, somewhere might play Sudden Strike, find their interest piqued, and progress from there to more 'serious' wargames. Games like KP, AA:RDoA, and even Combat Mission can be more than a bit daunting to the novice gamer and 'serious wargaming' is a genre that can always do with some 'new blood' if you'll excuse the expression.

this was the precursor to Armored Task Force, very good game, although I had some issues with the interface

ATF is supposed to be better
I'm essentially graphically and history oriented, unfortunately to connect the two I have to do maths. I hate maths.

Man,you gotta be careful buying wargames.Sadly the hobby is infected with bunk titles as well as companies who dont know what year ww2 started much less a wargame.

Stick with Matrix products and the games you see the regs on the forum frothing about and usualy you are in business.

I myself dont consider Sudden Strike or Blitzkrieg to be a wargame. They are horde games were you throw youre horde mindlessly into the enemies horde and hope you got more fire-power.

Chances are the devs are not dumbing down their ideas, they never had a good idea.

In the last couple of years the only game I returned for my money was Panzer Elite Gold. Just wouldn't work on my computer ... not saying it couldn't but I was unsuccessful. ...and I returned Sudden Strike because it ran like a snail on my dual Pentium III with a Gig or ram and cutting edge graphics card ... I just couldn't figure out how to get it running better.

At the time I was big into SteelBeasts and am anxiously awaiting its next Release. Its great because you can play it as a simulator (as gunner or commander) or play it tactically from the map views. Plus there is multiplayer thru IP and a large following of good guys to play against.

All the games I've bought recently I've enjoyed: PzCamaigns Kursk, Sicily, Fulda Gap and Middle East; SSG/Matrix Korsum Pocket (I'm really enjoying right now ... and can't wait for more).

I've down loaded the Armored Task Force Demo (which is a great demo) ... I enjoyed it but didn't buy it. I downloaded TacOps demo and it was a little too slow for my liking. I'm also interested in Decisive Action but I run Win2000 and all the literature I've seen says its only for Win95/98.

Right now I'm looking forward to buying AA: Highway to the Reich. Does anyone know when it will be out on the shelves or available at the online stores ?

Did you mean WW2:Frontline Attack, or the BidmapBrothers WW2 Game?
Battlefield Command is from MaddoxGames and the Release is in 1/2Q 2004.

Last time I checked EBgames had it posted for October 13th shipping though I wouldn't bet on it :( Based on what the update thread is reporting I would expect HttR to be available by the last week in October at best or at worst, early November.
