Surface raiders too powerful

Post by sveint »

In my latest game as the Allies (beta patch) I've sunk almost the entire German merchant navy in a few months (off Norway).

I think an easy and fairly historical fix would be to disallow surface raiders on the iron ore route.

If not, Germany needs the option to turn it off. The Allies can easily keep Germany at 0 merchants the whole game.

You can turn any trade convoy off in the convoys screen.

But the iron ore route jumps between Norway and the Baltic. You don't want to turn it off in the Baltic.

Svein, I am up at something against this convoy system still linked to this thread:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4801961

Before sending my next turn, I would like you to confirm the below instructions:
1. Please continue to do some surface, submarine raiding against the iron ore route.
2. In two turns, I will declare war as Germany against Norway but I will not invade it. I will ask you not to invade Norway also. I will explain why later.
3. I will open a corridor for the Polish army to reach Danzig and repair the railway between Warsaw - Lodz - Poznan. I will ask you to reach those cities but do not invade, I repeat, do not invade Konigsberg.

Please confirm you have read this message. I will then proceed with my turn.

Thanks

You could always activate the route during the summer and deactivate it in the winter. Also some production of escorts along with some research to improve them, as well as naval bombers in Norway, should make raiding that route a bit expensive for the Allies.

Sure OK but it just turns our game into a test.

I always turn off the North Sea route until I take norway. Then I use a bomber or two to discourage any Allied attempts at interdicting. And usually turn it off then too.

You only need it on in the winter months. The new scenario makes it MUCH easier for Germany to defend this line with naval and aircraft

Here here that is what I call the sveint's maneuver (in reference of the famous Picard's maneuver in Star Trek)
fb.asp?m=4821190

In one single turn, half of the German merchant marine is at the bottom of the ocean (18 MMs):
fb.asp?m=4821206

Alvaro, sveint himself thinks this is too powerful. Did you look at it?
