Convoy Lane

Post by Uxbridge »

How do you set up a convoy lane in the editor? Is it at all possible? The manual doesn't say anything about it as far as I can find.

I want it to run from Sevastopol to Valencia.

I did figured some of it out, so disregard my question above. I'm now struggling with getting anything to pass through them, and try to figure out what happens when paths cross.

Resources flow like this.

R -> rail -> port -> convoy lanes -> port -> rail -> capital

Are the convoys always neutral, like a hose? If the parties at both ends are friendly, trade is possible?

Also, what happens if they cross? If I draw one convoy from North to South, one from East to West, there will be a point where I have to chose wich tile to use. If I use tile N-S tile, will that cut the E-W convoy?

I think I got the answers to the former questions by extensive trial and error, but now I ran into something that I can't tell wether it is something I messed up in the editor or some kind of bug.

A. I managed to set up a convoy running from Sevastopol to Spain.
B. USSR and Spain are in the same alliance and USSR is a parent major to Spain.
C. USSR has sufficient meschants to deliver a shipment of 30 EP's to Spain, but takes casualties from enemy actions.

So far so good. But then the problem hits. The loss is taken by Spain, not USSR, meaning that USSR don't suffer any loss, whereas Spain is thrown into a negative amount of ships. Therefore the trade can go on indefinately, since the loss doesn't change anything.

How come?

Convoys can cross but you don't want to do that. You want them to connect. Think of a patrol route between point A and point B. At point B the next set of escorts pick it up. Noticed how I laid them out.

Any lane resources travel through they are considered in that lane even if it is a crossing. This convoy system was incredibly difficult to develop. SC and CEaW super simplified it. Their methods are easy to code. Mine was not and still has an issue or two I just fixed.

Neutral trades can be set up via script or via internal. Neutral countries can't openly trade in the game by a player.

This coming patch today should fix the above problem.

Are you using beta or 1.00.06?

I'm still on 1.00.05.

I made exits from the Mediterranean convoy to connect to Greece, Yugoslavia and others. Seemed to work, except for the mess with the losses taken by the wrong nation.

I can't tell in this specific case, but I usually wait a while post-patch not to mess up any ongoing games. This is regardless of game played, not only for WarPlan. I also had some issues when I patched earlier, so I had to re-install the game each time. Lastly, none of the fixes in the latest lists where such that I had had problems with. But I suppose I shall do it now.

Any ideas why the hits were taken in Spanish merchants, or if patching now will remedy that?

Patched.

At least ostensibly, the convoy losses seems fine now. New issue is total loss of production for the Axis after at couple of turn (and this will most certainly annoy someone in Berlin), but don't mind this for the moment. I will do some more testing.
