Something i noticed with supply

Post by Culthrasa »

Hey,

In the Dastactic video (ep31 @8:23) he is trying to find out why supply doesn't go into a hex. It would seem it should but it doesn't. Anyone know why? (want to know myself so i know how to fix it too :))

The supply system still baffles me occasionally. I had an issue in my series on Youtube where I couldn't figure out quite why my SHQ wasn't supplying my troops with food.

I've still got the file from the turn before and when I run it I get the same screen as above so I can analyse what is going on. The supply along that stretch of road comes from 2 sources - the city in the south-west called METABRIDGE and the Capital city called FORT DASTACTIC off in the north-west.

The turn before, METABRIDGE had very limited oil supply and the truck station there had only generated 26 action points. These action points are then used the following turn (the turn you were watching in the video). The dirt road chews up 10 AP per hex so all the truck points were gone just before it reached the mine at QEORCORE. No LIS from METABRIDGE made it to QEORCORE because of lack of fuel.

That leaves the truck points from the Capital. These happened to meet right at QEORCORE and the northern route got there before the southern route. Only one LIS source can be active in a hex and the smaller amount was active here. The northern route is throttled and so hardly any supply gets there but the southern route is open and so all the supply gets to the hex below QEORCORE, sees that it has truck points already active in the QEORCORE hex from the northern route, and so diverts all the points to the other road leading off to the south-east toward the mine at QEXIDEEP.

What was throwing me off in the video is that THIS turn, the truck station at METABRIDGE did get a supply of oil, and so had full action points for the NEXT turn. I didn't realise that the action points in play were from a turn where the truck station had no oil and so no real logistic capability.

Hope that makes sense. :)

I am still confused. So great to see this thread because I watched DAS last night and I realized there is still so much to Supply/LIS that I do not understand. DAS, are you saying Fuel impacts the Logistics trucks?

Going slightly off track, DAS, in the capital you Nationalized the Truck Depot, which cost $500 and Unhappiness. Why not make a 1 hex road off of the Capital, and place a Truck Depot there? Wouldn't that be better because (1) You do not have to pay $500 and suffer Unhappiness, and (2) you now have this new Truck Depot, plus the one already in the Capital owned by Private industry?

Thanks again.

Yes. There is an upkeep cost for all the asset buildings and if they don't have enough then it hinders their supply. I think for truck stations if you don't have enough workers you get less LIS points and if you don't have enough fuel you get less Action Points - which was the issue in this instance.

It would have been a better move to build the truck station one hex away. :) It feels a little exploitative and I'll be suggesting in the beta comments that truck stations outside of cities be limited to Level I for that reason.

I am still making fine-tuning improvements to the systems. This one showed my some exceptional case stuff. It wasn't exactly a bug, but it could have been better. Making some adjustments to the algorithms.
