Looking for a new Laptop Computer

Post by RangerJoe »

I am looking for a new Laptop computer. I currently have a Dell 15 3000 and a replacement is around 300 USD from Dell. But it does not have an optical drive nor a touch screen which I want in case I get back into a hospital or some situation where a mouse is awkward. This computer needs a new battery and a power source. The cost of replacing those two is around 150 USD. I think that I can get a discount from Dell if I buy directly.

I don't play the arcade games, my newest game is WITP-AE so graphic use is not intensive. I would like an optical drive but a portable one could be used but that is another thing to get in the way of some things. Plus another thing for kittens to try and damage.

So my budget is 500 USD or less. I have not kept up with the latest computer technology nor the brands. I would like a computer to play some games on, surf the net, and do some office type work. A 15 inch screen is good enough but I am leary of getting a smaller one. I do not want a refurbished computer.

The only stores that I can easily get to that sell computers are Target and Walmart. But I can buy online. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You can get some great deals online at Best Buy and Newegg.
I wouldn't waste my time with Target or Walmart.

Thank you.

I also saw that Dell has a price match from some places for certain brands as well as their own.

This might be a good time with Memorial Day sales, check out newegg and pccworld.com for some reviews.

I will continue to look. But I think that this one is in my price range but without a build in DVD drive:

Dell - Inspiron 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory - 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD - Black
Model:I3593-3992BLK-PUS
SKU:6403450
$399.99
Save $50
Was $449.99

I will see if Dell will match the price. I like the idea of the accident protection with two rambunctious kittens . . .

It looks like a computer that would fit your need. I bought a desktop without the DVD drive, not needed anymore. The laptop also has a fast Ssd drive. Should be good. You will go crazy shopping for this stuff, just wait a few days for memorial day.

I will, but so far that is it. I will see about a carrying case and a portable DVD drive for watching movies if I go into a hospital/nursing home situation again. I hope not but some of the staff can be pretty . . .

If you can manage it, try to save a bit more and get an i5 CPU. You may find the i3 a bit slow on more demanding games and applications.

I have a 14 inch with an i5. 8G Ram. It is a convertible, or as it is called now,
a 2 in 1. it's power, portability, and ability to "fold" make it very useful.
