question about air units
hi everyone
ive been playing spwaw for quite some time now, always by pbem with a friend on randomly-generated maps. one thing has been bugging me for a long time: we almost never get air forces! ive played with the true troop/rarity button as well as the air sections preference, but neither seem to have any effect.
is there a way to bump up the probability of getting air units, or some way to force them to be available?
second minor question, i notice people on these forums talking about 4 player pbem. i didnt know that was possible, i never saw an option for that anywhere. how is it done?

sometimes it´s just bad luck - mean: bad weather.
in my last games it was mostly raining, so no air.
what i don´t like is, you don´t get a message about
the weather before the start of the game.
i played a game german me against US.
i granted my opp. 2 air air sections too simulate
the US air suppority. of course i wanted to shoot all
the planes down and bought masses of FLAK.
but....the weather was too bad for air
so my opp. bought masses of deadly shermans
instead P47´s. hope my FLAK arrices on the frontline
too at least kill some men or trucks

When you purchase your units you have buttons in the lower left part of the screen. One is marked "View Map" and another is "Mission Details" (or something like that)Frank W. wrote:sometimes it´s just bad luck - mean: bad weather.

The Mission Details button will tell you the weather, visibility, date, time, and type of mission. You can use those to judge if your opponent has air strikes availible or not.
What, me worry?

The file 'steel.prf' gets hosed every once-in-a-while. Sometimes deleting this file solves some of the more bizarre problems that come up. It's located in the Save folder. After it's been deleted, you have to go into the Preferences screen and reset any preferences that you want to be different from the standard defaults.VikingNo2 wrote:There is a file that needs to be deleted everyonce in a while Capt P knows which one.
Also if you have the option for cargo and not strike, buy a cargo section then delete it, then you will magicly be given the option for strike aircraft ( equaling to the number of cargo sections you delete )
You can set a maximum limit on air strikes within the preferences screen. That setting doesn't guarantee you'll get airstrikes in a given randomly generated battle, but it will limit the number available to each side. Weather and visibility and time frame will all affect the availability of air strikes. Sometimes you've just got to keep starting a new game until you get what you want.
Your best bet is to set the preferences to 2 or 3 air strikes, start a new Battle and set the weather to clear ('1') and set the visibility to >20. Chances are pretty good you'll get access to air strikes.

I don't think weather is displayed under mission details. I've had that same complaint about not knowing the weather conditions prior to starting the game. A Sandstorm/Thuderstorm can really ruin your day if you were counting on being able to move your infantry at a reasonable speed. (infantry movement drops to 1 hex  )Bernie wrote:...The Mission Details button will tell you the weather, visibility, date, time, and type of mission. What burns my cookies is a raging thunderstorm going on with a visibility of 50! You can't move very fast, and you can be seen for a mile. This ends up being a deadly combination. (usually with me being the dead one.

You could be right about this one. I seem to recall a similar situation once, where I did check the details and visibility was high but the weather would have made a frog look for a dry spot.Capt. you are wrong here. of course i know all the options you said.
playing this game "some" time

but neither gives info about the weather.
the mission details gives info on visibility, not weather.
you can have a sandstorm, heavy rain, snowstorm etc.
without knowing it before buying units.
you can make a guess of the weather though if you
go to the misc menu and you have not the option of
buying air, even if you have set the prefs for air.

Here are the rules we are using, I have played many multi-player PBEMs and this system works very well,
Viking and Frank W as the weak and Sissy Finns
Vs.
Krec and M4 Jess as the Might that is the Russian Army!
Its 1941 Feb, Winter and cold as hell!
12k Total with 3k per player.
300 Arty
No Air
No Spec Opps
Rarity OFF
It works like this
Krec starts the battle, set points to 6200 for each side, all options on but C&C...Ammo set to limited, turns 30, Vis 22, Weather 3, Random large map. Buy Russian units, Set the Russian Password and send Battle to Viking.
Viking Buys Finn units, deploys Finns, sets Password, and sends the files back to Krec
Krec starts the War! DO NOT END THE TURN! and sends the files to Jess
Jess plays and ends turn and sends files to Viking...Vman plays his turn, DO NOT END TURN! and sends the files to Frank,
Frank plays his turn, ENDS the turn and sends the files to Krec...
And so on and so forth!
any questions?
Good...

Im making war, not trouble~

I got your e-mail and I'll be glad to set up a game for you and your opponent this weekend. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. I've been very, very busy this week (thank God!!)

I have one.
Are you ever going to win one of your 4-way battles?
