How to recover from NOCOMM

Post by JuliasW »

So I have been setting up a scenario of Russians vs the UK Surface Fleet circa 2020. After the usual round of Missiles exchange, it ends up being a Gun Fight. The Russians always win, maybe their Naval Guns have better range or accuracy.

It always plays out the same, the Russians fire a few gunshots at my T45 Destroyer and T26 Frigates, they suffers bit of damage and go into a NOCOMM situation, and so go dead in the water. Cannot do anything with a NOCOMM unit. I send back a friendly frigate to investigate, but nothing. Maybe the Brits are just wimps, with fragile comms on their naval units. I obviously Try Summon return to Comms, but that is really only for calling back Subs.

Is there anything a Surface Naval Unit cam do once it has been inflicted with NOCOMM status ?

n.b. the search facility on these forums is appalling - never returns anything, so I cannot find whether this has been previously discussed.

When a unit is in NO COMM status, it cannot communicate with the player, but it can execute its already issued orders. My suggestion is that as soon as you engage with the Russians, you create a strike mission targeting them, and assign your SAG to it. That way, even if you are unable to give the ships further precise orders, they should be able to prosecute the engagement as well as the AI (and their functional weapons and sensor mounts) allows.

OK Great Suggestions. Many Thanks

I was kinda hoping that after a period of repair, or close friendly unit proximately the comms would be repaired (Random delay & recovery of comms) since naval ships have many comms channels.

Repair of comms equipment can happen, if the equipment is only damaged, not destroyed. However, if it is heavy damage, the repair period could be days, which usually goes beyond scenario length.

I'm not sure if proximity to a vessel can fix a NOCOMMS situation, such as a non-damaged vessel communicating by semaphore flag. That's an interesting thought, though.
