Is this unit an engineer?

Post by Mike McCreery »

Not sure whether the USMC Pioneer squads can do any actual engineering such as base repair or upgrade. Anyone else have any experience with them?

You need to read up the documentation associated with the mod.  The unit is an engineer unit but there are nuances as to what is done.

I have looked on the DaBigBabes site and in the scenario folder but there are no documents. If you could direct me to where they could be found I would be interested in reading them. Thank you.

also

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.a ... r&#3427577

in short:
they are sqd so they won't build
they have A/ Arm of zero so they won't reduce forts
they have A/ soft > 8 so they will add AV
they are shore party, hence they will help load/ unload

I should have read to the end of the thread. You confirmed what I puzzled out from that thread and the database lookup in the game. They will add a bit to AV and can be used as a garrison but otherwise are not different from any other infantry unit.

Thank you!

no think of them as "combat stevedores"; the guys that will help disembark under fire

they are very good at that and should be part of any amphibious assault, fast unloading is critical for success

In my PBEM, I just unloaded the 3rd Marine division and the 3rd pioneer battalion at enemy controlled Ambon

this took me less than one day to achieve; it was the pioneers who made it possible to unload so quickly; this is a great capability on any amphibious assault and it is critical if your target is an atoll
