No escorts for air transport

Post by Chris21wen »

Couldn't understand why I has no escorts for air transport despite all the normal stuff that might prevent them flying E.g. fighters being in range, same HQ etc. The TR base was under the Lutflotte HQ and escorts under a Fliegerkorps whose HQ was same Lutflotte. They should have been available. Didn't matter if a staging base or not was selected.

I exprimented by -
Transfering one escort group into the Luftflotte base and voila, all escorts under the luttflotte's command now available
Next I transfered all TR to the korp base with the same result, all escorts available.
Final step was to transfer all remaining escorts out of the korp (doesn't matter were you put them) with the result being NO escorts?

I tested other stuff but the outcomes were always the same meaning you have to have at least one escort group in the same base as the transports or it no workie

Can't believe this is intentional.

No pics but it's easy to test, just don't put any escorts in the same base as the TR.

It worked for me yesterday after some fiddling. I assume you were using manual missions. Are you taking into account range? Fighters have to fly to the staging base and then the target, so if you're at the max Ju 52 range (33?) then a fighter having to fly to the transport base may not be able to reach the max.

Also remember this is a transport mission, not a combat mission. So there is a different multiplier between miles flown and hexes flown. Bottom line is at maximum range the staging base cannot be 2/3 of the way away from target or originating base like a combat missions. It has to be closer to the middle. So there will be times when a staging base does not work for a transport mission where it will for a combat mission.

Nothing to do with miles flown, distance etc I tested at range 4/5 and at the start of a turn. All a/c were set to *. As I said initially '..despite all the normal stuff that might prevent them flying '.

Not got the original save so tried a simple test again. Beginning of turn nothing flown etc.

In the pick the purple base (luftf) conatins the TR, red escort base (Luft/Flgr) and yellow another target.
If I use either of the bases as the staging base to supply the target, no escorts as shown.
If I pick the other target in yellow I get escorts

I'm really confused here as to what's going on. What am I missing apart from a brain.

Thought the click order had been fixed and never occured to me look.

The answer is no, that produces the same result. I tend to use the button more than shift click but the order I was doing it in was;
F9, button, left base, right target

What does work is
F9, left base, button or shift right target
