How is the in-game tutorial, please?

Post by FroBodine »

This game looks pretty darn cool, but probably way, way too complicated for its own good.

How is the in-game tutorial, please? Does it explain all the game mechanics, with good examples of play? From my experience with the other games by this developer, I fear the tutorial will be very bare bones and unhelpful.

I hope I'm wrong, though. I don't enjoy watching hours of someone else playing a game just to learn how to play. I strongly prefer a good, comprehensive, in-game tutorial.

Thanks in advance.

I've only just started, like on turn 2. There are tool tips, a help menu, and advisors and tabs that are flagged with issues you need to read about and deal with. You don't need to know everything to proceed along. The game has a lot of connected parts, a bunch of which are flavor/backstory elements. You should watch a little game play video to decide if its your thing or not. It's a very involved game.

It's busy, but not at all complex in a Gary Grigsby sense. Don't agonize over decisions. Roleplay your leader and recruit or smash everyone else on the planet.

The logistics system uses a fluid-like mechanic. Think of trucks as water flowing through a pipe (the roads), at a certain pressure, from the facet to the drain. Adjust the pressure using valves (stoplights) and pumps (stations/storage) to push the fluid farther along the pipe to further the drain.

The combat system make itself known through trial and error. Don't be afraid to lose and restart--or savescum.

The biggest issue is that it's a huge timesink. Rimworld-level timesink. Watch the clock or you may miss meals. [:'(]

Says complexity is high, and it is. But having read the manual and played a bit, it is all clear to me in only a handful of hours. Really, for a complicated game, it is more learnable than most.. that said, yes, it will be some effort.

There is no comprehensive tutorial, but there are basic tutorials with screenshots and step-by-step instructions under REP. tab > HELP > HELP TOPICS.

Is there a tutorial for how you quit? I bought it and only had 20 minutes for a quick look. For the first time in 40 years of gaming, I couldn't work out how to quit the game!

The manual has a tutorial section on how to play the game.
