This was useful, thanks.

Is the main use of Independent units for garrisons? I suppose they lose the benefits of an OHQ commander but that's not important for a garrison?

Not necessarily, although they are very useful for that. I tend to recruit them anytime I need a unit quickly, usually to counter some kind of threat that's popped up, or to guard something. It's handy to have Independent Units to attach to OHQs as necessary: early game candidates for that are Motorbikes for recon, and Buggies as a nice early game tank substitute. Once you're done using them there, you can detach them and send them over to another OHQ (or keep it independent as needed). These two units are also never found as part of a Formation, so will always be Independent Units.

Later, you'll do the same with Rockets/Missiles, and often with Heavy Armour and other very expensive units that would be overkill to own in any great quantity.

Depending on circumstances, there can be good reasons to have your formations contain artillery or armour mixed in (Siege Infantry or Assault Infantry respectively). I put a post up on here replying to a question by Balto which was something like "Why would you ever used mixed formations instead of just independent attachments". That might be helpful as I did some basic maths and some examples of situations where such formations might be preferable to Independents.

Thanks, I will take a look at that.

I was already building them for early recon as you suggest (and attaching them later) along with an Infantry - but I might just forgo the latter unless I'm threatened to get a full formation more quickly (I've been starting with Militia only).

Strategic move! [X(]

I learned a few new things, thank you. Confused the video is on a different channel though?

Rob asked if I'd upload it to explorminate instead of my personal channel (never quite sure whether to use that one or not, and I like to use my own from time to time) so it's up on both, sorry for the confusion I think next time I'll ensure it's just on one or the other!

I would love to see you do a video a more detailed video logistics, specifically, the optimum placement of roads and intersections (e.g. distances from units, terrain costs, etc.), truck and supply bases, rail heads and rail lines. The use of stoplights and also when do agriculture, mining, and industry constructions give you a free road node. You get the idea-that would take at least 25 minutes.

Building logistics is helpful, but building logistics in the correct places is better.
