A checklist for a typical turn?

Post by Grotius »

Can anyone suggest a checklist for a typical turn, or at least an early-game turn, of Shadow Empire? I've found myself doing the following, but I'm sure I'm leaving stuff, and I'm not sure of the optimal order:

Read the Vids and Advice that pop up at turn start;
read some reports;
check the dashboard;
check on leader XP gain;
make decisions;
play strategems;
check items stockpile;
build assets and check on construction in progress;
check and build logistics;
move and attack with units,
built units, replacements, and ammo.

Something like that?

I'll add to the list to also check your message inbox under Reports (Letterbox is the name from the top of my head.) Sometimes there's info that appears only there. Looking at the zone reports can be good too.
Read all the decisions before answering to any because you can sometimes manage to balance profile stats modifications better than if you had treated them in sequence as they are presented.
I don't bother with leader XP gain each turn but if you do, more power to you.

But basically, your checklist is sensible. Gather information and assess the situation first, then make your decisions, then act upon the results and fix what needs fixing (as you list implies, you make replacements after you know how many losses occurred during combat.)

But I feel you can make do with a laxer order and fly more by the seat of your pants. You can always come back to the SHQ to make more replacements or ammo if needed. I tend to make the items, assets and logistics check up before acting on decisions and troop movements, but your way of doing things seems valid. I don't really thing there's an absolute optimal way of going about it but that's just me.

Also, I tend to play Stratagems at the end of a turn according to which amount of PPs I have left, unless a card is required by the situation earlier. But your mileage may vary.

Many thanks for your feedback; just the sort of comments I was looking for. Yeah, I'm not sure there's an optimal order of doing things. Mostly I just wanted to make sure I wasn't forgetting to check some important stuff. I appreciate the help!

You're welcome. The thing is, I think, there's such a wealth of information to be found it is hard to devise a general solution that will cover all your bases anytime.

In my experience, I've been having an issue, finding out where to learn more about it, then incorporating this new trove of data to my routine, and over time improving on my own checklist.

For example, I got a little too comfortable and just played a whole turn, troops movement and all, putting off looking at the Decisions until later, before eventually finding out a major power was trying to blackmail me with a threat of war if I didn't comply! Now I'm making a point again of checking Decisions first. [:D]

Ack, that's just the sort of thing I had in mind -- some nasty development that I didn't notice until after I'd already committed to moving my units. OK, I will check the decisions early. :)

Also check your cities for unrest/danger levels and occasionally the governor (they may increase corruption levels if not happy).
