Tracking resource use?

I can't find any way to track resource use--how much each turn and what for? This seems is a standard element of 4x games, am I overlooking it in SE?

Well on left side with the usage chart up it shows what you used last turn. Haven't seen anything that says what you WILL use yet but still learning the game.

You can only see the "balance" of the previous turn (just how much you got minus how much you spent) but even on management there is no screen to see what resource was used in every zone at the same time (like a comparative table where you can see how much IP used each zone).

Management -> Assets -> one of the buttons on the right (expand?)

This will show you the generation and consumption within a given zone. Definitely not the full picture, but can be helpful.

That or when in the zone (map screen) check the Items tab at the bottom.

OK, but why the focus on zones? I want to be able to see how much of a resource is spent empire-wide, and on what.

Because the logistics system is based on zones probably.
But I can only agree a consolidated empire-wide overview would be nice to have.
I believe it's been suggested in the UI feedback improvement suggestions thread, « Better reporting wishlist » opened by Nemo84.
