Dec.3

Clearly Goering has hopes for a '41 Sealion, or maybe the airfields are just full of paras wanting to do their Christmas shopping in London.
Nothing more interesting to report

Nothing of any interest happened other than spotting the first panzer xxx on the russian border.
Messed up my invasion of Iran a bit. WDF has had to go backwards to get into suppply.

I admit that the kitten is far too cute to be sveint-related.

8 out 11 LW units still posing along the English Channel though the number of ground troops diminishes as the units head east.
No sign of any prep for invading Spain. Hard to do now without weakening Barbarossa which seems set for '41 this time round (it was '42 in our previous game).

Surprisingly large concentration of Germans here. The earlier picture of the Africa Corps fleeing Tobruk was widely circulated around the world, so this is probably just a ploy by sveint to recapture a little of his lost prestige. Long may they stay here. They won't get anywhere without significant air support and the Italians just have 2 bombers and I have a balanced air force.

Image

UK inf are a bit disadvantaged at the moment. They are still on '40 tech (there is a random element to research speed) while my other combat techs are on '41 for my other combat arms, and those of USA and USSR. They should upgrade before any offensive starts (if it ever does) so nothing more than an annoyance.

8 of 11 LW units continue to like a peaceful life in France, but the ground units have thinned out a bit.

7 corps remain in N Africa and the remaining LW is also in the med including the one at the toe of Sicily. No complaints from me. Nothing happening in Egypt because my initial invasion of Iran has been rained off with WDF advancing south again to get back into supply. I have no idea how strong the Persian xxx in Iran will turn out to be now, so a 2nd tank xxx and a Canadian inf xxx go to help out.

The lesson here is that Iran can be grabbed in '40 if you are quick and France surrenders in the summer, or else leave it until the early '41 rains have stopped.

The combat symbol in the pic is just ineffective port blockading

14 Feb '40. To celebrate lover's day, here are our far more important Socialist Advancements. Some might seem a bit random, but
no workers are allowed to be idle for a moment.

I am taking Iran come what may.........

The tanks start on their long trek back to Egypt leaving a few Canadians (they took the loss) to keep sending me a victory point every turn.

Oh no! Are you telling me that VP locations have to be occupied every turn to earn a VP? I though it was good enough to just have them in control. No wonder I am losing all my games as the Axis. I am not even occupying Berlin.

No, but I am paranoid about partisans even though I don't think Persia creates Partisan units. Also, in another game my Axis opponent did a seaborne invasion of Kuwait via the Atlantic so I'm prepared like the good Boy Scout that I used to be. In that game, we agreed it was too gamey and the Germans left with a safe conduct pass back to Germany.

Bemused by such high maintenance costs. Hardly move anyone and it makes it impossible to upgrade units or build up a war chest to buy inf armies when Barbarossa starts.

Same old problem [:@]

Image

1 Bottom of picture 2 CVs on '40 tech failed twice even to find any subs let alone do anything useful.

2 above surface navy fared even worse. Sveint had left his surface navy next to the UK battle fleet, but 2 attacks failed even to spot them.

4/4 failures is a bit annoying..............

April 11 '41

I'm increasingly thinking that Barbarossa will be late ( near historical) or very late ('42 again).

Image

Suits me if he does a '41 Sealion as long as he fails to take the whole place. I assume he will also take out Spain + Portugal as well if he does that. Doing what I can to strengthen defences but overwhelming airpower + paras + corps will get ashore safely.

A large xxx with '41 assault tech runs away from massed air and ground assault. Italians lurking at Rouen presage more to come. Tempted to add a lot of Anglo-Saxon words here but I suspect that would be in breach of forum rules. Navy blockades the captured ports because I forgot that they don't function for proper supply next turn.

In retrospect, calling the AAR The Last Kingdom might have been asking for trouble.
