Unit replacements

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Unit replacements

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Why is it so slow for units once they reach about 75% to increase replacements. Then I have units suddenly going to 110%. These are usually infantry units. As suggested in another post I normally about rail the units to Milan. Once they get to about 75% replacements they do not seem to go any higher. This is even when there are plenty of items in the replacement pools from what I can see.

I am playing Italy 43-45 scenario play by email, latest patch.

What is Supply Priority of the units? Should be set to 4.

Sounds like you're putting them on a depot. Make sure depot priority is 4.

Try national supply for refitting units.

To amplify what Searry wrote, for support units that can't appear on-map, put an army-level or above HQ on your national supply center (Oran, Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Belfast for Allies, Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Frankfurt, Essen, Prague, Milan for Axis), and then transfer the damaged support unit to that HQ. Sounds like you're already doing refit on Milan.

few other bits.

flip the pools to only show active, that might give you a more accurate indicator of what is available.

this scenario is notorious for some replacement problems, basically you get a very low % of what is available, and sometimes for the rare stuff that is not enough to kick the elements into units

Okay and thank you for the replies. I have generally been using Milan and have now stacked OKW there as well. Units pretty much only refit to around 75 or 80% even when stacked at Milan. I have although increased the priority of other places where units closer to the front may try refit. I will see how it goes. The strange thing is some units hang around at 75 or 80% and then other units go to 110% mainly infantry. I wish they could sort out this replacement issue because it does detract from the game. I suppose less people plate the scenarios so they get less attention.
