Need way to force a specific roadbuilding path

I'm trying to build an additional road to connect to a city and alleviate a logistical bottleneck, but for the final hex the pathfinding for the road builder insists on connecting to the existing road rather than connecting to the city directly, thus basically making the extra road useless for its intended purpose. I'd post a picture to illustrate but the forums won't let me.

That was fixed in 1.02:
• When constructing roads to a Hex just one Hex away from the start it will always go as “the bird flies”. In some rare cases this is useful.
• Unit movement now also goes as the “bird flies” if the distance is just 1 Hex. In some rare cases this is useful or even crucial to avoid likely surprise combat.
We are at 1.03beta5 right now.

Unfortuantly 1.01 had a bug in the updater, so you got to download 1.03 directly from the WebPage to get up to date.

Ah thanks, that's great. I wasn't aware there were patches I needed to download... so used to auto-patching now :)
