How to get more political power

Post by boomboomf22 »

Hey, so this is my first post ever on the matrix forums (I think). I have been having tremendous fun with this game, but was wondering if there was any way to boost PP. The manual has a extremely limited section on PP.

I know that is supposed to be a very limited resource you are suppose to husband, but I am finding that I have far too few points to keep my empire running. I am getting about 30pts a turn, and am finding after events I can use 1-3 stratagems or interact with my councils.

It has meant that I have had to put up with Leaders with 14 opinion because I literally cannot afford to replace them. It is getting quite bad cause I have an epoch going right now that makes all my leaders opinion drop...and I can't fix the problem.

Upgrade the High Command Asset in your HQ City and you can adjust the BP allocation to your Supreme Command Council towards Political Power which will generate you more PP.

Also, you can get a temporary boost using the "50 Political Points" Strategem, which only costs 1 Fate Point.

Bureaucratic Points are what feed your government departments, so more BP means more resources going into your Supreme Command Council. You can get BP from buildings (the Bureaucratic Offices one, for instance), and you also get them from your citizens as tax. I think the Services tax? You'll want to make sure that your Supreme Command Council is getting a large share of the budget if you want lots of PP, and also make sure that the SCC budget is also dedicated mostly towards PP. Make sure it's not wasting BP on "General Strategems" for example. Having a high skill leader in charge also gives you a bonus % on PP generated.

PPs are probably the most limited resource in the game (except FPs I guess). You basically have to carefully use and horde them from turn 1, because you're never going to be generating much.

You get ppPoints from your Supreme Command Council based on BP invested into generating PPs, and the square root of ppPoints adds to your PPs. Not only that, but BPs over 100 (for one task) are much less effective for all organizations. So even with 100ppPoints you're only getting 10 a turn. At a 1000 you're probably losing half to inefficiency, and then the remaining 500 to 600 is generating around 22. You can get a decent bonus from PP bonus points, so level up the higher command for that (and maybe try to get a high level city to level it up further?).

You know, I was wondering whether democracy was a wise choice on my part or pure fluff. But apparently the political bonus multiplier makes a difference - since about the midgame on I've not had less than 60 PP at the start of the turn after spending on decisions. I've had a long run of blowing vast amounts of PP on wargames, cabinet meetings and governor's conferences to boost my leaders simply for lack of better things to do with it.

Those strategems all give XP. Wich is used to translate "Skill Usage Points" into "higher Skill Ranks".
So more usefull then you give it credit :)

Call your head of the Supreme Council and allocate 75% or more to Politic Power, and then call your secretary for a budget decision and allocate more % of the budget to your Supreme Council.

Thank you all for the helpful responses. Love the discussion it has spawned.

I am currently having issues managing my factions as well. I have so many leaders that no matter what decisions I make it pisses off a lot of people. Should I be hiring people of only one faction regardless of capability?

Very probably not, but play how you want to play. It very much depends on your unique circumstances as well.
I really like that in this game there are no easy quick rules like what you ask for in order to get the best results. You have to decide in the moment based on the info you have :)

True, I figured it was like that as that is the way most 4x games function from an optimization perspective. Really just wanted to see what people though. I am finding this to be super addictive to the point where I am having to force myself to go away and play other games as a brain break.

I think I have thoroughly annoyed all my acquaintances by talking about this game to them.

One cool idea a friend of mine came up with (dunno how hard it would be to implement/good it would be in practice.) was that GR equipment had a chance to not work the first time you used it in combat to represent that this stuff has been sitting in a depot for hundreds of years and may not work as intended. Would add a degree of risk to using something like the GR nuke launchers.
