But remember, unless you win at everything 100% of the time, then you are a loser. If you do win 100% of the time, either you are cheating and/or you have not been challenged.

Ugh, you reeeeeeally got me there :)

Does he speak from his own experience? [8|]

Or do you think that the women who date losers do it as a point of rebellion against their parents? [&:]

Do you think that it may be low self esteem?

But remember, unless you win at everything 100% of the time, then you are a loser. If you do win 100% of the time, either you are cheating and/or you have not been challenged.

Heh. Speaking seriously for a moment, in my present life as a teacher (past life was a military career) I know many single or divorced mature female teachers who talk about all the loser men in their lives. Good ones are apparently very hard to find. And I teach high school and get to see every year some of the best and brightest young ladies dating some of the worst of the young men, the 'bad boy' types, sometimes precisely in rebellion against parents. The 'bad boy' syndrome is still a big thing in high school. The smart kids -- male and female -- who are going to be successful 20 years down the road, are usually not the most popular kids, though there are exceptions.

As for my own wife of 46 years, she sometimes tells me she is not totally unhappy with her choice, even though it included moving from place to place in the US and around the world for half our marriage, including five years in (West) Germany, though other times she tells me men are only good for three things, two of which are lifting heavy objects and reaching things in high places.

In gaming I find I have an affinity for certain factions in certain situations, but I tend to play a mix of losers and winners. For example, I always play the Germans against the Soviets in WWII East Front games. But I always play the US against the Germans, except in full war in Europe strategic games where I will play either side. I always play the US against the Japanese. And so on.

Edit -- We loved our five years in Germany. It was beautiful. We still keep in contact with the family we rented two rooms from in our first stay in Germany right after we got married, 1974-75. They treated us so nice. And we got to travel through much of Europe, that is, the parts that were not part of the Warsaw Pact at the time.

I am sure that Germany was so nice back then, I bet the bier was great.

I had two tours in (West) Germany, 74-75 and 85-88. Greatly enjoyed both of them. Stayed out of German politics. Of course you have to remember in those days there were protests against the presence of US troops in West Germany. They thought it would bring about World War III. The young protesters were naive. I left for the last time in summer 1988 and a year later the border walls came down and the Warsaw Pact collapsed.

But my wife and I loved the beauty of the country and just visiting the other countries of Western Europe and seeing the things we have read about and seen on TV all our lives. Just to see firsthand Cologne Cathedral or the Colosseum or the Eiffel Tower. Just amazing. Or to wake up with a real working vineyard producing wine grapes nearly outside our window. Or to literally walk the battlefield at Waterloo. We attended a re-enactment: "Reconstitution de la Bataille de Waterloo 11 & 12 Juin 1988." For someone who loves history that was almost a religious experience.

And, yes, the bier was great.

So why does anyone like the Confederates/Nazis?
That is, to support attacks against fortifications, like Sherman Jumbo. How reliable Jumbo was again?

The Sherman tank was very reliable. Didn't even have to carry a spare transmission on the back of it. [;)]
Jumbo couldn't have carried it anyway as added armor already made it overweight. The Chieftain details it in here. To sum it up: Jumbo was restricted to move at slow speeds in limited engagements.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

And now in this world where it seems that many have lost their minds, all losers are to be banned. No more Confederate Flags, no more Statues of War Hero's from the losing side. WTF [:(]

Actually some Jumbo tanks crews added sandbags or concrete to the front glacis. And it wasn't the rear bogies that were overloaded as much as the middle and front. They were intended to approach strong points and were never meant for maneuver actions although they sometimes ended up that way.

Everything you wanted to know about the Jumbo that is fact, not hearsay.

History happened. Studying it isn't a bad idea. Glorifying it, might not always be such a good idea. I loathe revisionism. But I don't care for championing the worst elements of a horrible time. The German army wasn't evil. The Waffen SS sure was. It wasn't a crime to be a Confederate soldier, but some of the south were most definitely 'bad'. To be sure, some of the Union were less than angels.

The victors never have to account for their actions.

My Grandfather risked his life getting rid of Nazis. I'm ok with just shooting Neo-Nazis. I don't wish to go political, but, I won't share air with anyone glorifying a racist symbol specifically as a racist for the sake of racism. Isn't there enough misery in the US already?

You can bet the Canadian Army did some horrible things during it's times in battle.
It was my unit that was in the news way back in Somolia. I just wasn't there.

They will indeed come for wargamers one day, if we continue on the trajectory we are on. Wargames featuring certain topics have already been questioned. I think it will still be okay to play the Soviets, though. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/01/styl ... lture.html

So much for the Freedom of Speech.

We need to get rid of the unions then since they were racist.

No more Amazing Grace either.

I am seriously thinking of getting some rebel flags to put on my clothing and gear.

You said this on a thread previously. I suggested you were better than that. But you've repeated it again so......

So we have laws for a reason, but you are quite happy to ignore the law and just shoot people you don't agree with? Who decides what a Neo-Nazi is? What does the Neo-Nazi have to do to get shot? Who has the power to do the shooting?

You surely see that just shooting people you don't like is what the Nazis did so aren't you simply emulating the tactics of those you want to kill? How does that make you any different to them?

And you've decided its okay to shoot Neo-Nazis so that is okay. Suppose the people in charge decide shooting another group is okay? You see where we end up?

I have noticed a slight turning point in this thread.

It seemed to be quite open and friendly in the first posts, but it seems to be steering in the opposite direction. I am not pointing my finger at anyone or anybody's post.
We all have our own feelings towards certain governments and their actions, be it past or actual. Sometimes we feel we need to vent our feelings and thoughts, but I doubt that the forum is here for that stuff.

I think we play wargames not for the ideologies of the sides we choose, but rather for the chance to see if we can repeat or be better than the leaders, generals of these armies. Most of the time it is for the fun of the game, even if we do lose the game in the end. Be it playing alone or choosing PVP, it all comes down to enjoying the time we are spending with the game and in some cases with friend.

Please let us keep this forum friendly, there is enough hate outside in the real world. There has been enough hate in the past.

Just my few thoughts.

The losers always seemed to have the cooler uniforms, maybe that's why.

In the early days of the Civil War it was difficult to know who was who. There were some nice uniforms then.

Great looking uniforms for the Confederates was the exception to the rule, wasn't it? That might have been the case at the beginning of the war but after many soldiers were looking to get shoes from fallen soldiers.
