Sharing maps

Post by Vegan »

Hi,

is there a way to share maps, for example via map seeds as in dwarf fortress, rimworld or banished?

Thanks.

Yes, upon generating a planet a 'planet save' will be made in your savegame folder. Use that to share :)

Not as a good as the seed system some games use but if it works it works, thank you.

Except for the fact one can, conveniently, offer a seed number instead of a saved file;
the 'lastplanetgenerated.se1' file appears to be identical on all reloads & is under (always?) 3mb...so an easy share per email or some other format.
I suspect, due to multiple screens being required to setup a planet, a single seed number might not be easy to implement.

I had more in mind a thread or a subreddit dedicated to sharing maps, such as https://www.reddit.com/r/RimWorldSeeds/top/?t=all, it's one thing to just write down a seed, it's another to have to upload and host them somewhere and having to download them and move them to the right folder. Sure it's doable, but few will.

I important disclaimer on Planes Saves:
They use the game setting, Building Balance and Cards/Card effects from when the save was created. Those effects are currently stored inside the savegame.

I agree on the simplistic & ease of posting/sharing of needing only one or more seed numbers to generate a specific planet type for this game.
I disagree on the, perceived, difficulty of folks downloading a 'saved planet file'; but I agree the task of hosting said files is the main issue.
Certainly a lot easier than applying the 'beta patches'. [:)]

Based on the fact that the downloads are tiny & easily placed in the main directory 'savedgames' folder (as opposed to, usually, having to find where a game's particular save files are), I am sure no one would find it difficult to do.
Interesting that if this was a Slitherine forum, as opposed to a Matrix forum, the zipped files could be hosted in a thread on that site.
Maybe they would allow it.

If my memory serves me correctly, that site allows for at least a 2-3 mb attachment.
Not sure why Matrix has a max of 200 kbs per an attachment, but it is what it is.
