ORIGINAL: Manual Section 5.1.9.34, Political Points

This is the most vital resource you have. It is used to play Stratagems, make personnel changes, upgrade Cities, raise new Units and HQs. You will have more PP if you get more powerful, but your PP will always be highly limited. Be sure not to suffer Prestige Damage as this can seriously reduce your PP income.
ORIGINAL: Manual Section 5.6.2.2, Political Points

Calculation of political points added to the player's global resource...

Base Income: 5-10 PP (based on difficulty level)

PP Production by Organizations (Supreme Command Council): add Square Root of ppPoints produced

Prestige Damage: remove Prestige Damage percentage

Political Bonus: add 2x Political Bonus percentage

Multiple SHQ Penalty: remove a value between -2 to -20, based on number of SHQ's from 2 to 6

These calculations are not stating the units of measure (PP vs ppPoints).

Per the image, for the new turn, the results are given in the tooltip.

At the same time, the following zeitgeist is in effect. The 150 Political Bonus Points (another unit of measure) is not included in the tooltip details.

Given the mixed terms and lack of some details, I am unsure these calculations are accurate.

The percent political bonus is the square root of the political bonus points.

Agreed.

Players don't know about hidden variables and blackbox conversions.

The manual writes, "add 2x Political Bonus percentage."

Keep units of measure consistent, even if behind the scenes calculations are performed.

Should it actually be the square root of 2x the political bonus percentage?

I see what it is doing too, but given the information, it is not clear the results are correct.

This is a consistent mistake made in the game.

Tooltips in the Bonuses and Feats Overview.

Oddly, the tooltip under Political Bonus Points gives two separate tooltips depending on where you hover over the text, "Political Bonus Points".

As you see here, this is dizzying mix of the terms Bonus and Points. They actually reverse depending upon which list you hover over--bonuses and bonus points.

(1) Bonus: Political Point Bonus
(2) Bonus: Political Point Bonus
(3) Political Bonus Points

Finally, a common problem throughout the game interface-- a percentage is a proportion in relation to a whole. It is extremely, aggravatingly, difficult to determine the "whole" these values are based upon. Political Bonus is 16% of what whole number and of what unit of measure?

The list doesn't add up to 100% so it can't be a sum of the whole list. That means every item on the list has a different a whole-- a different unit of measure. However, that is not provided.

There are many points so the player needs to know to make use of this information.

The tooltips somewhat describes what the bonus does, it increases PP.

The arrow and the three indicate 3 more than last turn... three more percentage points? three more PP?

1. ppPoints are produced by Assets... => they translate in their square root of extra PP (on top of default PP)
2. Political Bonus Points get produced by Assets as well (or Epochs) => they transform into (extra) Political Bonus% like all the other Bonus Points get transformed into Bonus%.
3. PP is increased by Political Bonus %.

(the x2 in the manual is wrong. will fix next manual version)

thanks for discussing

Indeed; each point you mentioned has a clear function (transform) for production but this one.

It's important because this a common transformation in the game.

How are any Bonus Points transformed into any Bonus Percentage? Percentage of what whole?

I think we all realize the Bonus Percentage is then converted to usable Points by calculating its square root. As you mention, there is no 2x of the Bonus Percentage.

Myself or someone else will be happy to post an informational message in the War Room, but it needs to be clear, concise, and reproducible like an accounting cash flow statement. That informs all of us that resource values are working as intended.

all such interface reports should ultimately define these resource values like cash flow statements

This kind of report text is much easier to follow... (subtotals would be nice, but it works very well and is clear)

Notice despite not talking about money, it shows the flows like a cash flow statement.
