December 30th major events:

This day was marked by three separate naval engagements, two south of Singapore and one at Adak island.

-A DD TF intercepts and sinks the rest of the 2 DMS between Palembang and Sinkawang, of which the third was presumably sunk on December 29th. Then it engages 2DDs protecting 3 xAKs at Sinkawang, who were apparently loading combat troops. The 2 experienced Japanese DDs fought well to protect the transports, of which none sank. 2 Allied DDs were heavily damaged and the rest somewhat less, and in the afternoon phase Japanese bombers attempted to torpedo them, all missing.

-In the Aleutians, a CL/DD TF based on CL Trenton intercepted an empty convoy of 2 old DDs and 3xAPs at Adak Island and sank all of them. In return, DD Sands was sunk in return.

-I-8 puts 2 torpedoes into CA Louisville, north of Koumac.

-Netties torpedo some HDMLs at Rangoon.

Happy new year of 1942! This game is proceeding with a nice pace. Hard to keep up here.

January 1st major events:

-I-170 sinks an xAKL off Darwin
-PT boats clash with heavy surface surfaces at Palembang, getting sunk in several engagements. Heavy presence of submarines in this area is unable to score hits

-Immediately after heavy sweeps come in and AVG H-81s and Buffaloes get shot down en masse
-Dutch and British bombers operating out of Hong Kong and Batavia are unable to score hits on the armada off Palembang
-Heavy cruisers bombard Palembang with heavy allied ground losses

-NW corner of Borneo is now completely secured for the Japanese as Pontianak captured and rest of the Dutch units driven into the jungle
-Georgetown captured

His attack at Singapore was early 9 Jan but the good news it seems your forts remained at 3 and he took more loses than you did and he only has two divisions fighting as divisions and many separate Rgts. You don't say what your supply situation is there and that way determine how long you can hold out. That Bataan fell so soon, is troublesome unless you planned your entire defense on holding at Manila with the bulk of your good troops and well supplied and forts 4+.

Regarding Malaya, a more forward delaying defense might've worked better. Japanese put much pressure on capturing Kuantan immediately from the beginning and shoveling a large amount of troops there, and then the continued attempt was apparently to ferry troops with barges to either Mersing or Johore Bharu. Keeping surface forces intact in Singapore thwarted those plans and forced a march down the peninsula, albeit cutting the rail line from Kuantan. This would've made it possible it possible to delay with smaller units along the rail line, small units which might not contribute that much in a major battle at Singapore itself. Palembang is still holding on for now.

Regarding Luzon, the plan was really to keep Manila open as long as possible to produce supplies, but it seems there's insufficient resources in Manila itself to keep the industry running for too long. As events folded out with the horrible counter attack at Lingayen, made Clark and Bataan fall quite soon. Otherwise leaving a smaller token force to defend Manila and shifting most to defend Clark and ensure a retreat path from Manila, and on to Bataan was the plan.

I can't say here the exact supply amounts in Singapore or Manila but I got some additional shipped into Manila before Bataan was closed and Singapore is pretty much what it could produce. On the other hand we still hold Palembang for now, and I'm not sure what's happening in the eastern DEI, but Manado and Kendari have been captured and Makassar will probably go fairly shortly. The Dutch can't really defend those outlying bases with anything other than their submarines, but there are still alot of useful bases for extending air search all the way to Babeldaob.

In China, it seems a weak attack in the south is occurring. Wenchow, Chushien, Wuchow, Nanning, Kahnsien and Kukong are still held and there are small reserves to the areas in their rear as well to provide atleast a small defense in depth. There are 3 divisions currently attacking Chushien and as far a I can tell they are quite "spent" divisions in terms of AV. There is one relatively strong Chinese corps defending it.

Changsha and the area around is very strong. The Japanese seem to have reinforced Ichang a bit which I am ok with. The major action is going on around Chengchow which is being encircled and this seems to be where the major offensive is folding and most of the large combat formations are being sent. The other push is coming north towards Lanchow with several armored units and some infantry. I have some backup for this offensive. The offensive towards Yenan and Sian has been halted and a few Japanese units have been withdrawn presumably to support the offensive at Chengchow.

In Burma, as far as I can tell there is a stalemate going on at Moulmein with one armored unit there and enough forces to keep it from advancing. I'm not limited to defending Rangoon which can be outflanked relatively easily, and am fortifying up some of the rear bases as well and defending the borders of Burma as well (or rather setting up tripwires to ensure that the forces at Rangoon, Pegu and Moulmein can't be cut off if there is a major attempt to do so).

In the SOPAC the major action is going on at Noumea where carriers are supporting the invasion.
