SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

questions i always wanted ask about SPWaW

Post by StealthPR »

hi, i am quite new to this forum but know the game a few years now...have really no time to search here for the answers thats why i start a bigger threat...do not be mad about me...regards

how do the reinforcement and retreat hexes work right if you edite a custom map? For me it always occure at the same place no matter where they are designed on a online game

how do you manage to switch sides and the reinforcement hexes are switching too on custom maps...

how do you overtake enemy tanks or equipment if its abandoned

how do you make sure that special forces do not shoot after entering the specified hex...it seems they do not follow the orders giving by placement?

how can i avoid that NON-engeneer units are clearing mines

how can i assign airstrikes to a specified hex, no matter which target is near it(bridge busting, bombs on soft instead hard target and so on)

how can i controle the infiltration minimum time...it is not good if your special forces are earlier...i found no controle about that available...did i miss something?

how do you increase your AA hit chance
for me its like randomly selected...sometimes they are awesome but most time
with same settings the AA hit simply worser then a rifle platoon....

anybody else feels the same? For me the US planes that wear rockets thats like they have laserguided rockets...they hit more accurate then a Mavericks

anybody else saw crews with 250lbm bombs and MG 121 adn 75mm how. ? have no idea why that is messed up....first time happened after mixing different nations while buying units

preferences max. platton/groups= "400"
but you can`t buy over 100 ? Where is the problem?

after a timeout, do you chat somehow without timeout is cancelled? Or is there another possibility with the same effect (ingame not teamspeak)

how you can increase the brightness of the game editing which file for it (not monitor)

playing games with 20 rounds online needs a lot of time and 99% of all games anyway are crashing...
which settings are you using with good success to finish an online game

btw. my freind and me were able to finish 1 game last 2 years without a crash

10 rounds set (17 were randomly played)
6 min. round

ok thats all for the start....cheers ;)

You don't. You can only destroy abandoned equipment by placing a unit in the same hex for a turn.

Umm..not sure, but set their range to "0" when plotting their infiltration hex.

Again, something automatic. Non-engineers are not terribly effective on clearing mines, but if they do, make them face another direction if you absolutely need the mines there.

Make sure you have a friendly armored unit in the same hex. :D :D Jokes aside, pilots are only so smart. They'll go after anything if their target hex is empty. I'm not sure if this applies to strikes with bombs. Planes like the P-40 will usually drop their bombs on the target hex as long as they still carry bombs.

Think of it this way; how can you control an infiltrating unit as a commander? If you definetely don't want them to show up early, place them farther back from the line when deploying. The further they have to the target hex, the longer it takes, IME.

Yep. That's a code thing I think. Rockets are too accurate.

I have seen it mentioned on the boards here....can it be a OOB question? If you're playing scenarios, check if your OOB has been updated since?? (I don't think this is the answer but anyway...)

That is the *total* number of groups. If you can't buy more than 100, the enemy/AI has bought a bunch for himself. :p

Since I have no experience of online play, I leave the rest to the expertise. Hope my shallow answers help some.

I strongly recommend that you read the section in the manual on scenaro design. It gives you a lot of the information you are seeking Stealth.

As for reinforcement hexes in the editor you might follow these guidelines that I had written and published earlier. the rest of your questions were well answered by Belisarius.

Now if you are talking about computer generated battles, I don't think there is much you can do. But if you are talking about designing scenarios with custom maps, this may help.

Setting reinforcement hexes in SPWAW
By Wild Bill Wilder

When editing scenarios, it is important to understand just how to set reinforcements should you choose to use them. This is the procedure.

1. Go to map editor. Click on “edit.”
2. The reinforcement flags are numbered as follows:

0- Side One exit hex
1- Side Two exit hex
2-5 Reinforcement flags Side one
6-9 Reinforcement flags - Side two

3. Click on a hex you want to use as a reinforcement hex for Side One

4. Then type a number (2-5). That will put the reinforcement flag in that hex. That is where units in that side will enter.

2=Reinforcement hex 1- for Side One
3=Reinforcement hex 2- for Side One
4=Reinforcement hex 3- for Side One
5=Reinforcement hex 4- for Side One
6=Reinforcement hex 1- for Side Two
7=Reinforcement hex 2- for Side Two
8=Reinforcement hex 3- for Side Two
9=Reinforcement hex 4- for Side Two
(Remember, numbers 0 and 1 are exit hexes)

5. Then you'll have to go back to unit deploy to associate reinforcing units and their turn of entry to these hexes.

Setting Units as Reinforcements

Go to the Unit Deploy screen. Click on a unit that you want to be a reinforcing unit.

Then click on the 2nd button from the bottom, left hand side in the button list.

A screen appears asking which reinforcement hex is the reinforcing unit to use. Type in a number (1-4). It next asks for turn of entry. Type in the number of the turn you want the unit to enter the game.

thank you all for the quick replies...

Belisarius ,...about online gaming...the problem with the setting is that you always forget something...

i realized if that AA set to defend it is shooting more rounds and if you set the max. range to 1/2 its more accurate

about make sure an armored unit is at this hex...yes i tried it out...
the unit is gone, the bridge is still alive.... :D
thanks for the tips...
but online that is much fun...you see the boys coming in and suddenly they are killing tanks that you haven`t seen before...hehe..thats a good fun

yes the Rockets are to accurate and we limit the airsections online

Wild Bill ,...for scenarios your tips worked perfect thanks alot

for online playing with "custom maps settings like designed" on "Battle" I will try out later
