Can't upgrade artillery

I can upgrade every model in my arsenal -- except artillery. The "upgrade" and "mass upgrade" buttons are always grayed out, even though I have many newer models available. Is this by design? Or am I doing something wrong? Many thank in advance for any help.

You can not upgrade Artillery or any of the Vehicles. Only replace them.

Unforetunately the crew and their XP are bound to gear. You can only retreive the people and some resources via scrapping.

Then the manual is misleading. I was wondering if it was possible to replace vehicles but keep the experienced crews in the unit, and thus read into the manual:

5.10.11. rePlaCInG trooPs
If it is a Model that is “replaceable” you can select a Troop Type in the SHQ
that is of the same Reinforcement Type.
It is basically switching equipment around while leaving the Soldiers in
place (respectively at SHQ and in the frontline Unit). It is a good way to get
newer equipment to highly experienced frontline Units.

But apparently that's not the case in-game? (I haven't tried it yet.)
(I'm not confusing with Upgrading Troops which is covered under 5.10.12.)

That´s not true. If you replace Tanks or whatever Vehicle the crew keeps their XP.

That´s not true. If you replace Tanks or whatever Vehicle the crew keeps their XP.

I never was able to us replace on artillery.
Maybe it is finally fixed for the other types in the Beta? Not so sure about it.

Yes, it was a bug until 1.03 when they finally fixed it.

In order to start using newer models you have to first "recruit replacements" with the new model, then you go to your frontline troops and you use the option of "replace" with the newer models, as long as it has Logistic points its going to be able to do it, after that, you have to go back to your SHQ and scrap the old models to recover some resources and pop.

That is... way more complicataed then it has any right to be.

Well, they are already back as teh SHQ. Well, this way they can train the new recruits a little with their Seasoned Rank from 60 XP. Might still be able to make the swap in the SHQ, of course. I have to try that tomorrow.

Thanks for the replies. Well, "replace" is clunky, but it seems to work. I did a test with 100 arty pieces and the XP seemed basically intact. Good to know!

While we're on the subject of scrapping units: I know I can disband (scrap) units in SHQ and recover some of their resources. Likewise, I know I can mark models as Low Quality or Obsolete and phase them out or remove them from units altogether. But is there a way to delete a model from the game entirely, so it doesn't clutter up my upgrade/replace lists? It's annoying to have to hit "next page" every time I want to upgrade my grunts to line infantry.

As far as I know, not at the moment.
But if I'm not mistaken, it has been requested to allow the player to at least have an option to hide models deemed obsolete.

Yes, go to the management screen, then go to the models screen and select the old models as "obsolete" so you wont see them again when raising new formations.

If you mark a model as obsolete:
1. All remaining units will be send back to HQ
2. The Model should no longer appear in the build list

We do need to look for a middle ground.
