I'm probably missing something about the calculation, but I'm at a loss how any combination of -1%, +47% and +47% results in -114% presented value overall.

It is actually +114%.

( 1.47 x 1.47 x 0.99 ) - 1

That makes sense, havent though about the -1.
So it's just a truncated plus sign.
