National Budget

Post by Twotribes »

Ok lets hear about National Budget I usually increase all 3 research budgets and lower the others a couple points. Right now I have 12% Econ
15% Military research
9% Model design
8% staff Council
10% security Council
10% Foreign Affairs ( usually drop it to 6 percent and focus on one thing depending on neighbors)
9% Interior Council
10% Supreme Command
17% Applied Science

In early turns I focus on discovery for the military and econ and focus on research for applied.
For Interior I cut off tariffs and do taxation 20 percent and human resources 40 and Interior policies 40.

I usually research cross fertilization to 25 or 30 percent then depending on what I have change to something else.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

I have at least 15% in econ council - tech rivalry is pretty steep.

I tried to keep it even except for cases where I need more.

Usually the latest council is going to get the biggest share. And often the best leader. The idea being that a later council has more "catching up" to do.

But I try to keep in mind that some councils got 4 areas (Eco, Staff), instead of the normal two areas.

what is a good rule of thumb for early game? for lets say 4 councils?

I have something like
30% econ
30% mil
15% model
25% supreme

is this OK?

If you run out of PP, the supreme council needs more (or a better focus on PP production).
Economoy may need more, because it has 4 points to split the income between.
Note that starting on Tech Level 4 drastically reduces the need for a Econ and MilResearch council early game. Indeed I had games where I got the model council way before Tech for new models.

But as long as the spread works, it works.

Obviously the early game is a bit schizophrenic with how you designate the budget, but going on I never let econ and mil drop below 20% each. The rest you can sort of adjust as your priorities shift depending on whats going down. Keep an eye on your organizations reports to see what they've giving you and how the council's BP point budget is being spent.
