I did a search of the read-me, and found a reference to some tweaking of the Au/NZ invasion reinforcements, and also to a change to give invasion reinforcements a one turn arrival delay; nothing specific about "middle-east/Africa" but perhaps the code was altered to include that 'zone' then.

There is no specific reference to this new zone in the location listing - what you are getting is the India reinforcement, which starts at data line #7961, less the Waziristan division, or perhaps including it (see above post).

1. The Aus/NZ tweaking in patch #4 only applies when the computer is playing either of those countries. The AI can't handle off map emergency counter invasion forces arrival. Before the patch these reinforcements were being caught in a loop which prevented their arrival at all.

2.. AI arrivals will be to an on map base. Again only for the benefit of the computer player, additional tweaking was made to ensure that there would be a suitable on map base.

3. As originally shipped the Indian line of death only applied to hexes of nationality code 42. Socotra was the only code 41 base. With the release of the extended map, two new code 41 bases were added to the map. The line of death was then extended to include code 41 hexes in addition to code 42.

4. Modders can adjust what is in the emergency reinforcement package.

From Tokyo to Karachi is 6962 nautical miles by the most direct route. At a 12 kt speed of advance 24 days are spent making a one-way trip. Certainly at least initially, an invading force would have to carry everything it needs with itself (the Japanese did launched an offensive in 1944 Burma ASSUMING that they would capture enough supplies to sustain themselves which did not turn out very well for them). It's 5400+/- nautical miles from Tokyo to Colombo (19 days one way). These distances would have imposed an impossible strain on the Japanese merchant marine which was already strained accomplishing the planned expansion into the DEI/Philippines/Malaya. Is this plan to conquer India anything other than a pipe dream?

A pipe dream in real life, of course. In the game, perhaps not. And the unknown - what if? - adds flavor to the contest.
