I believe I read somewhere that Superman has been killed at least 15 times in his career and always comes back from the dead. He's the Doctor Who of superheroes apparently. Now, it's the old alternate universe trope. Superman is raised in the Soviet Union instead of the USA.

The never ending battle to keep old stuff fresh. For a Man of Steel he sure is malleable.

without arguing a single point you've made (after all, I'm more of a Marvel guy), the Red Son Graphic Novel is fantastic. Borrowed off a roommate in grad school and it was far better than any superman material I'd read or seen.

I guess a lot depends on how well the story is told. I was never was a big fan of Superman comics, but as an Asian-American kid I did get a certain satisfaction from hearing he helped Krush the Klan in some of the 1940s radio broadcasts. The comic version wasn't too bad either.
