Dividing Units

Post by kbfchicago »

Doing some minor mods. Would like to add the capability to divide a Division into three generic Brigades, in game, as you can do in stock for most (if not all) of the major IJA and Allied Divisions.

I've noted in the Editor manual how you can do "splits" of units at game start or deployment (using pre-breakout and the "split" button to define more specific sub-units vs. the generic in game "divide unit" button with gets you three generic brigades). Not seeing how you enable the generic breakout into three Brigades "in game". For example, reviewed closely the IJA Imperial Guard Division (within the Location Tab at #3942, using TOE at #2077). I'll be darned if I can find any difference with a unit that can not divide in game.

so..how does one enable a Division sized LCU to be able to divide (and reassemble, subject to normal device matching restrictions) in game? Or is it enabling the button on screen vs. in the unit or TOE location?

Many thanks for helping me noodle this out.

You can pre divide in editor as you like, but after you assemble in game you can only divide in 3 parts this is evenly matched and not controllable.

In a regression from first War in Pacific you cannot divide in 2 for example a Brigade.

In the editor, there is a tick box to enable the split. the LCU must be defined as a div type unit to be able to do that. Now, that doesn't mean it has to be a division, you can create any sized unit, but it must be defined as a division unit. You can even give it a non-division name if you wish.

One of the few minor items that I wish the devs had allowed us modders was to add/modify the list of unit suffixes. that would have been nice .... there are a lot of blanks that a modder could have used to create unit names with.

Thank you Pax, exactly what I'm looking for. However seem to need a little more help...perhaps my editor is out of date? Don't see a check box for this...

I know what each of the check boxes circled above in Red do... with the exception of "ME" which is not mentioned in my editor .pdf doc and is not checked for other units that I know can divide in game.

"ME" has nothing to do with units.  It relates solely to whether a base is in or outside the Monson Effects area.

As far as I can tell, the unit type has to be an Infantry or Armored unit. For an Infantry unit, the suffix has to be 71, 77, or 78 ( Division, Cavalry Division, or Corps ) to be able to be divided. For an Armored, the, suffix has to be 81, 85, or 86 ( Division, Corps, Mech Corps ).

There may be other combinations, but that is all I found.

of course! Homer Simpson moment there for me, thanks Alfred... surprised there's not a corresponding check box for Northern zone, that one must be coded in.

Yes, both Cold Weather zones are "hard coded" and not amenable to manipulation by modders.

UnitType has to be >regiment and INF/ARM type at top. Then they are able to split. ART/ENG/HQ's cannot.
