I see no failure of production there. Every functioning well pumped the normal 10 points of oil.
Are you talking about the damaged wells and how they got that way? You would have to go back a turn or two to look at enemy attacks or your attack that took Palembang.

If there is an enemy unit at Palembang, the oil will not produce ( nor will resources )

Remember, when an enemy force is in the hex, there is no production of resources or oil.

October 10.42 the 2nd phase of Operation Alligator, the liberation of the eastern DEI has started, with the naval bombardment of Kendari

the plan is a straight forward naval invasion of Watampone, followed by a minor diversion against Kolaka

I have committed all the fleet carriers, 4 BBs, 1 CVE + several cruisers and destroyers
Amphibious TFs are composed, almost exclusively, of AKs and APs; I hope they will survive, as I don't have too many left

Enemy disposition is unknown, except for the fact there are torpedo carrying LBAs at Makassar

1st day bombardment went ok, if underwhelming. LBAs missed completely

You still hold that small Dutch airstrip inland from Balikpapan. If you get established on Celebes, you can fly supplies and a base for there....providing LB fighter cover for a move on Balikpapan!

Not that it matters, this game is way over anyway...your opponent will surrender when he runs out of gas

EDIT: Or even better, just land at Donggla and build that up. So many choices!

that is Melak, the DEI national redoubt!

From turn one I had it at 3,000+ supplies required, so that it start building supply reserves, drawing from Balikpapan. Once Balikpapan (and the entire DEI) fell, it become the last refuge of all dispersed Borneo LCUs

It still have a decent 1,800 points of supply,

Its main use was as a PBY-5A base during the early conquest of the eastern DEI. It's naval search capability over those critical seas was of tremendous value. Without it I would had no more than 14 to 16 hexes from Darwin or Kaimana, not enough to cover Soerabaja approaches. Eventually, after 15 to 20 turns [:D], he figured it out and started bombing, so I moved the Cats to much better protected Manado, and still close enough

When the time comes, I will use it for CAP, I am seriously thinking I should capture, not bomb the oil at Tarakan and Balikpapan; having a gas station so close to the front can be very advantageous

I am not too interested in Donggala; because the port is on the west side, too close to trouble; I am aiming for Madjene

The Allied armada got into LBA range, and it was attacked by 3 waves of enemy combined Army/ Navy strikes

the 1st and 2nd waves were destroyed by CAP, it was composed by Betties and Kates

the 3rd wave brought Nicks, and it was the most numerous, thus around 16 Nicks attacked the ships, but all were misses due to AA or poor aim

Tomorrow the invasions will start with a late morning assault at Watampone; I am not expecting enemy at the beaches
Looks like there is going to be strong LBA opposition and there is a TF located at Makassar... would it try to intercept?

Pretty sure Donggla is on the bay side of Celebes, where the text is. You can verify by putting it as destination for any TF and see which side it routes to.

I doubt it is strongly held. It might even be vacant. Worth a recon by a seaplane - a cruiser FP would do.

Edit - Just noticed it still has a Dutch flag on it - no recon needed, just send some troops there even if they are not prepped.

can be a Da-babes/ extended map thing, but it is in the west

Madjene is 6 hexes from Balikpapan, and it is 0(6) vs 0(4) Donggala

so for me it makes more sense to build Madjene

That said, once I have Watampone, Madjene I might send something with APDs and small ships

Another horrendous turn

I was kind of expecting it... the enemy carriers appear, and they sank CV illustrious and damaged CV Hermes, plus other ships.

I am not too concerned about Illustrious, as it was flagged for withdrawal in less than 100 days, but the bigger problem is that Japan has regained aircraft carrier supremacy for at least 3 months, then superiority until the arrival of Essex
therefore strategy will need to shift back to defense

That said, I plan to keep the Celebes, even if that means losing the entire fleet

I wouldn't sweat it; you're so far ahead that pausing operations isn't going to hurt. You're deep in the SRA as it is. And I agree, sacrifice what you can to keep Celebes, because you're going to win if you do that regardless of naval losses.

You're opponent just got a long overdue morale boost. That's not a bad thing in a PBEM!

You still going for Watampone or consolidating current gains? You're in good position for a bit of attritional warfare right now....even without a carrier edge, you can really wear him down in the air and at sea if he tries to counter attack.

I would counsel caution, as it is still Oct of 1942, Japan has interior lines and will eventually clean up Palembang, has local shipyards and the IJN surface fleet still has advantages over the Allies.

Still, having said that you are forcing him to react to you and that will have negative impact elsewhere for Japan. You can afford huge losses especially if you get trades.

Japan will have supplies and fuel to reach 1944 without it impacting his economy during that time frame.

I sent all SCTFs to try to hunt for the enemy carriers, that is where the comment on "losing the fleet" came from [;)].. I was expecting a slaughter. instead he sent the carriers to Balikpapan, probably to refuel after running at full speed, most likely

In the meantime the invasion fleets were able to unload almost unopposed; as you can see I have too many troops now at Watampone to think about retreat; instead I will use the tanks to grab Palopo, Parepare and Madjene while the infantry division guards Watampone. After consolidation I will lay siege to Makassar

Tomorrow is a holiday here in Canada, I will use the time to rework the game
