Choosing base land color

Post by Elessar2 »

Been messing with the 20km map, last night worked on North Africa.

The default ground color (when you add land areas from the Hex layer) is the bright green grass one. I clicked on Edit Terrain Layer, started "painting" with one of the Desert brushes, then tried to add hills & depressions and whatnot-but the land reverted to the default green color when I did so. What's the trick there?

Works as expected for me. What number is the terrain symbol you are wanting to use?

Edit: I have since checked if I can repeat your problem and I can. On one part of the map I am using the desert can have mountains, forest etc as an overlay. I created a desert in another part of the map and each time I put the same symbol on the same desert, it reverts to the green underlay. Will continue to investigate.

Edit: I have tried everything I know and can't get the desert features to function correctly EXCEPT on desert that I have already created. I have looked at all the underlying hexes, saved, refreshed and no luck - we will need a dev to help, I think.

Even weirder, on the default Euro map I just tried changing a desert hex to green. It stayed yellow. Hovering the mouse over the hex says "land" not desert. There is also an arid "steppe" color as well, used a lot in the Med. Manual isn't much help:
When drawing Desert hexes in the Terrain Layer,
image numbers 531, 532, 539 and 540 are set as full
Desert hex sprites.

Yeah, already tried those.

Wish one would chime in then. Hubert? Bill?

This is tied to weather zones. If you set a hex to be part of a weather zone set to 'Arid' it will use a yellow colour (eg. Libya), 'Semi Arid' makes it brown (eg. Turkey), 'Temperate' is green (eg. most of Europe), 'Frozen' is white (eg. Siberia)

"Desert" terrain is something you can add on top of this to make hexes hard to move through (just like forests or hills)

There it is! Thank you - my desert has its own weather zone, whereas the one I created separately does not. Cheers

Muchas gracias. [&o] It also means that none of my recent work will be wasted.
