Zombie Major Faction, please die already!

Post by jpwrunyan »

Anyone else facing this in the late game?

You've destroyed a major faction. Their cities are yours. You've reclaimed all the territory they used to have that you have access to. BUT There's some remaining territory they have inside a minor faction you're at peace with. You'd like to make this minor faction a protectorate and then take them over diplomatically and *win the game*. But you can't because the minor faction is still "at war" with this zombie major faction that has a few hexes of territory in the mountains or somewhere obnoxious that the minor regime won't go and clear away.

Please tell me if I'm missing something, but I think this sucks. Why can't the major regime territory revert to unaligned after a certain number of turns? I have to assume their units are all dead of starvation, but if they aren't (AI walker) can they please just revert to unaligned indies? This is really slowing down the late game and making things tedious and grindy.

I have tons of diplo cards to win the game without going to war against a minor faction. I'd like to use them for that purpose. This feels like a dumb reason to have to declare war on a minor faction I'm at peace with.

IIRC this is fixed in beta. Supposedly, until then if you capture their last city and don't surround the city completely, they'll surrender once you get capital.

It's supposed to get fixed in the patch after the next one.

I have captured the major regime's only city and even the strat.map shows me that the entire zone belongs to me but the enemy still has units roaming the map.
Currently on 1.04, thinking that maybe 1.03beta12 might have it fixed?

It's in v1.04 beta 1.
"-Major Regime without Zones or Units is now put to sleep (in future version I want rebels to be able to revive a Major Regime) and relations with Minors reset (so some blockages for minor diplomatics are removed concerning this major). Also it is removed from the S.MAP regime list if no hexes left on map and from TARGET STRATAGEM tab if asleep. "

Edit:
Oops, this is for majors without units.
Their remaining units shouldn't be a problem though, since they will be starving without cities.

What we really need is movement treaties. I *should* be able to travel through an ally's lands without taking them over, and visa versa. Even if that ally gets the land that I conquer, it would at least help with these scenarios.

I would say that such a change would be a whole can of worms.
Except, it is more like a Siwa planet full of them.
Such a fundamental change will not happen anytime soon. Might even be a "big" change.
