is it possible to re-organize brigades?

Lets say I have a light infantry brigade

then later on, I research mechanized infantry

so is it possible to reform my old brigade into a new OOB?

Depends, you can motorize it or mechanize it I believe but until you do those are the only choices.

You can change the OOB , but there are limitations.

eg a MG Brigade can not directly change to a siege . You can though downgrade the MG to Light infantry and then upgrade to a siege.

Siege to heavy siege works. Same type but motorised or mechanised also works

There are some changes you can make through the "Unit Admin" screen, but I've found the process to be...unpredictable? The only change I can reliably make is to change OOB size.

One way you can approach the problem:

1) Disband the brigade
2) All subunits will be sent to the SHQ
3) Raise a new formation, and make sure you check the "Use SHQ troops" option
4) The new formation will use existing subunits before producing new ones

I'm not sure if XP is preserved with this method. Maybe someone else could chime in.

Why not just change it in place?

1. Get to teh Brigade Upgrade
2. (Optional)Downgrade to the base unit type (pure infantery or tanks). This will show you most directions you can go into
3. "Upgrade" to the variant of brigade you want.
4. Reinforce to match the OOB.

Note that depending on when you created the savegame, some upgrades may be broken or some formations may be missing.

Disbanding units causes no experience loss; it does result in loss of unit feats.

Direct conversion between TO&E of units without having to take intermediate steps is on the list of future improvements, but no idea how long that'll come around.

Note that independent units can only be increased or decreased in size. You cannot IIRC change an independent infantry unit into an independent RPG or Machinegun unit, nor into a Siege Infantry or Storm Infantry unit.

Disbanding will send the Units - equipment and XP - to the SHQ. It is not scrapping.
The same happens if you change the TOE to something that no longer needs that many units (of that type) - they get sent to the SHQ.

You can not change the type of equipment (make infantry to tank drivers), but you can either upgrade or replace the equipment within the same group.

But if you disband brigade the subunits lose all feats.
On the other hand you can upgrade/downgrade brigade although choices are somewhat limited and sometimes you need to make few changes until you can get into desired form. Sometimes its just not possible.

Anyway I was pretty annoyed when I found that you can't change independent units type even in limited form. For example you can not motorize foot unit or mechanize it.
