Congratulations on getting it out the door. It's been a long time coming, but well worth the wait Image.

After having played two battles of the long campaign (Sept-39 as Germans initial battle) against the Poles, you'll forgive me while I collect my jaw off the floor Image. The changes to the game are quite striking, but none quite so to my mind as those to the infantry.

Unlike SP2 & 3 where infantry was often a tacked on addition to my forces (something perhaps to soak up fire), in this one, they've carried the day in both battles I've fought so far (well, that and the set of 3 bunkers in the defend mission Image). The quicker speed of the infantry is most welcome (at last it doesn't take three hours for them to reach the battle on foot), as is the speed and stealth of the recon troops.

It's the first SP where I've contemplated playing an all infantry force (all foot/towed support weapons) in a campaign, which for me says something Image.

Once again, congratulations on a damn fine effort Image.

I think infantry is great. I have been playing a long campaign as the germans myself. I like the fact that they are faster, but I sure don't move them their full move points unless I know there are no enemies around. I have seen the devastation a well timed MG burst can do to running troops. The same can be said about a mortar round. My favorite event is when a sniper or crew or FO squad destroys a tank via an assault. I doubt that ever actually happened in WW2, but it sure is fun to do in the game.
On the other hand, infantry is relatively useless against armor unless they are 1 hex away and can assault them. In the very first battle of my campaign, I took 2 armored car platoons and wiped out a few hundred brit infantry guarding their objective hexes. It was pretty easy to stand off a few hexes and gun them all down. That was probably more a testament to the AI than infantry abilities. If it were a human player in that situation, my cars would likely be completely destroyed.

Oh I am, I am Image.

It's good to hear you guys will be improving it as time goes by as well. And in that vein, a quick question .. any chance of the world war two campaign length to be variable like the campaign generator is - selectable up to 200? Two nail biting battles against the polish hordes weren't enough for me I guess Image.
