OHQ range?

Post by Kaspar »

The manual states that "For Units to receive positive effects of Skill bonuses (or penalties) the Unit
needs to be in range of its OHQ"

But what is the range of the OHQ, and how do I see it?

About five to six hexes, and terrain types do not affect the radius.
There's no quick way to visualize it, next best thing is clicking on the OOB looking button in the panel of a subordinate unit then check HQ Power there.

"HQ Power" is a stat on the units, between Supplie and Entrenchment. It seems to be at 100% up to 6 hexes, -25% for each additional hex.
So that is propably the HQ range.

Come to think of it, why isn't there some way to visualise this, e.g. with hex shading/colours or something? Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa had this (though in that game it was much lower range: 100% up to 2 hexes out, 70% at 3, 40% at 4 and 10% at 5). In that game I always had the range turned on, which was visible only when you have a HQ selected.

Something similar in this game would be welcome.

At the very least, something describing the exact rules should be available somewhere (e.g. in one of the help pages or at the very least, the manual).

Also, does anyone know if there are out-of-range penalties at all, apart from not getting the HQ power bonus? In DC:B I believe the out-of-range unit lost some benefits, such as posture bonuses (though I can't recall exactly so don't quote me on that one).

For Shadow Empires, this go-to filter is "Show Op. Log."

I think the only effect is, that the Unit only has a [HQ Power] chance to benefit from OHQ Rolls.
