How do you embed images in posts?

Ive tried using image but it just outputs the link.

Would you provide that link anyway? Just so that we can make sure it is indeed a link to the image.
Some image hosting services give you a link to a page in which the image is embedded, which indeed appears only as text when used with the image tag.

Such as:

 [img]http://imgbox.com/OVUXBVH3[/img] <- link to the page where the image is embedded

Would appear as:

<- direct link to the image

<- link to the page where the image is embedded
