Cannot open file PBEM Error

Cannot open file PBEM Error
I am currently several turns into a PBEM match. Today I encountered for the first time an issue while loading my turn. The program shows me an Error message with Cannot open file. Beneath that it shows the path were I saved the game and another sentence that says "The system couldn't find the requested data". Is there a way I can fix this?

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
It is a PBEM++ match; as his opponent, I’m in “waiting status” so have no access to the file.

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
Secret45 - could you please post a screenshot of the error message for us? I'm not seeing where it might be yet in the code.
The first thing I need to figure out is if the message is from the game engine or from the PBEM++ engine. This is not one of the expected PBEM++ engine errors, but I don't see anything like it in the game code either.
Thanks, Rob Crandall

Sure, here is a screenshot of the Error message I get, when I try to play my turn. The part in German on the bottom of the message can be roughly translated to "The system couldn't find the requested ("stated" if you translate it word for word) data".

Can both of you grab a screen shot of that /FPRS/Saved folder to see what is there?

Of course. Didn't got all of it in one screenshot. This is the upper part of the folder (sorted by date)

GloriousRuse, I can't open this image. Is there a discreet image link? Thanks.

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
Hello again. The Matrix PBEM folk were able to supply me with the file that errored out and I can see why. Something happened to truncate it to just 617 bytes! Ouch. Happily, they have a backup with is around 5 MB - much better looking in terms of size. They offered to try and restore the backup file and I am saying yes to that. I'll post here again as soon as I find out how that goes.
Thanks, Rob C

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
Actually, they rather thoughtfully included the backup file in a message to me already. I have renamed it to the correct name and posted it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yrq2ptafsu5at ... 6.pbm?dl=0
Please try downloading it and dropping the FPRS_461986.pbm file into \Saved folder and see if you can load it via Resume PBEM++ game?
The guys at Matrix are also going to try and restore it from their end, but let's see if this works and save them some trouble.
Cheers, Rob C

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
Hello Rob,
I put the file into the saved folder and now the status changed from "My Turn" to "Waiting". I'll wait then if my opponent can play his turn and give you some feedback afterwards if it worked.

Hmm, well that isn't quite right. Since yesterday though Matrix has restored the file at their end. Try a normal PBEM++ download again and see what happens next. With the full-sized file restored on the server it should now work.
Fingers crossed, Rob C

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
I did what you suggested. The game loaded but I got to play as the Americans (I was actually WP). So it worked but it looks like the restored file starts with my opponets previous turn. So I guess he has to do his turn again and then we can continue playing from where we stopped. I ask him if everything works on his side. Thank you very much for fixing the issue.

RE: Cannot open file PBEM Error
That, I'm afraid, might be a fatal problem. Something somewhere has corrupted a particular Event object in memory. I've not seen that ever happen before and it is most unlikely to be something that can be recovered from. I'm not sure what could have caused it, but that game may well now be over.
Very sorry about that, Rob C
