[1.04b9] Non-Aligned forces ZOC Cheating?

Post by Malevolence »

Per the image, the militia unit appears to seize more hexes with their zone of control than the player (and other major and minor regimes) under similar circumstances. Note the orange circled hex on slide #4.

In this example, the non-aligned unit attacks and then moves into a hex with adjacent adversaries.

Given a similar situation, a player (or regime) would seize the hex, but no added hexes would move to their control.

For note, non-aligned units also seize ZOC hexes when they do not win and when they do not seize a hex from an opponent.

It appears to me, after watching other examples, this only occurs with non-aligned units. I could, however, be mistaken.

I also believe this contributes to the zone fungus we see so often.

As an aside, per the history view, you can see in slide #2, the defender appears to disappear during the attack.

For reference, Game Build v 1.04-beta9; Scenario Build v1.04-beta2; Last Game Build used 104-beta9; Scenario Version Number #42.

I am running a Win 10 Pro 64bit, Intel i7-1065G7, 16GB RAM. It is a Surface Pro 7, connected to 2560x1600 display monitor via USB-C. That's Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics.

No it's fine. Your attacked unit was reduced to size 3 or less. Such units DO NOT provide ZOC (check your sentinels for example).

The hex is 200km. How could the enemy unit have that much influence after an attack and no action points?

Easy - you're forgetting about time. Our battles don't happen in a single day before end of season. [:D]
Our ruler don't have satellite and air recon. Our ruler don't know exact AP values. So all we know - enemy is pushing into THAT direction. Do we have units defending it? Yes, but they were forced to retreat and enemy breached our encirclement attempt. Until we find enemy position (takes time!) we are unsure where they are.

Also I would like to hear your ideas - how yours 200 infantry could control ~400km sphere initially [:'(]

Given tactical units, my idea is that a 200km hex means no ZOC at all, for anyone.

That said, I've repeatedly suggested no 200km hex. No kilometers at all and just hex as the measure of distance.

Given that change, then the militia impact in the OP makes some sense-- until the moment that becomes 6,000 dinosaurs.

Notice that the ownership of the hex to the south was not changed, due to the forest (i assume).

It's a poor mix of features given their implied scales-- tactical sized units mixing rules designed for operational scale wargames. The gameplay results are obtuse.

Not because of forest. This hex was under your control on start of turn and remain in ZOC of southern infantry battalion (strength:6). As enemy don't outnumber you enough - this hex is remaining under your control.

That supports my assertion more. Thanks.

At least 400km distant, and 26,000 km2 area in each hex, but it's the 1,000 troops in the friendly unit, and not the terrain, impacting the ZOC and ownership.

Without a dev console, it's difficult to setup the same conditions for a friendly unit attack and seize hexes with ZOC.

Is this working as designed, uniformly, for all units?
