Scorched Earth in the East front

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

For my 20 km map I'll have to make some tricky decisions to get encirclements & supply to work right with the bigger maps. So far have these ideas in mind:

* HQs get a speed boost (larger than mech/armor will, on a % basis at least), relatively cheap mech bonus
* More HQs proportionately per combat unit
* Boost to their defense ratings, including allowing them infantry weapons upgrades
* Pretty steep cost discount to offset the upgrades and allow more to be built, tho this depends on the base MPP income, which of course will be higher per turn as well as per year
* More lower rated commanders than higher, so all of the Jodl's and Keitel's [and Klink's [:D]] can be used to chain to where the good HQ's are (at the end of the tank spearheads natch)
* Annnd a larger cost per leadership point, so you can get more of the cheap guys to do the chaining, elites remaining rare

All of this can be done for Vanilla + current mods. Yeah, AI may not be able to cope, but I'm pretty much resigned to the AI sucking no matter what I do.

* * *

Some new screenies this weekend, for those interested. I've spent a week perfecting the Norwegian coast-it wasn't easy, with all of the bays and fjords and headlands, but I think I pulled it off. [8D]

Ultimately the game has to achieve PBEM parity within a historical framework. Each side should have an equal chance of winning. History could have been quite different given different decisions.

I think scorched earth would be best handled with equal chances of 0,1,2,3,4 supply on the turn a 5 supply city/resource is captured.

One issue is the supply rules changed and the SU/Finland supply map remained basically the same resulting in a few supply gaps (long distance between cities).

Yeah, the Allies have similar issues, but not in such a decisive way as the Axis in Russia. The Brits already have 2 HQs in Egypt, the Russians themselves no issues at all in their own country, whilr Germany simply can`t always cover the entire country with 2 armies and HQs along the same direction of advance

The way supply is treated right now is okay by me, it`s significantly better than before, when Libya was unplayable for the Axis imho; I don`t want to see that coming back.

Maybe scorched earth should only apply to defended cities/towns, and then randomly up to 5/4 points, thereby promoting a significant advantage
to defend at least some.
History could have been quite different given different decisions.

Yes, but probably other than this article assumes. The plan wasn`t to conquer Moscow, but to destroy the Red Army. In WW1 that led to the surrender of a politically instable Russia, and that`s also the experience of all the planning generals, whom Hitler followed more often than generally assumed, while capturing Moscow without the destruction of the russian army didn`t help Napoleon a bit.

Moscow became a target after the original goal was more or less achieved. The assumption was wrong though, Russia had further 18.5 million trained soldiers in reserve, while Germany had none after losing 1 million up to dec. 41, due to the restrictions after WW1. Russia wasn`t politically unstable anymore, but very determined to defend itself against the Übermenschen.

I had German client that once said (with a a few beers in him)

"We attacked the Russians with Panthers & Tigers and all they had were sticks. They just kept coming and coming and coming, the Russians had no respect for life."

T-34 was far from a stick but it pretty much sums it up.

What do you mean by that? They start the game with 1 have to operate any additional ones from Britain...right?
